We arrived in London, tired but excited at 6am in the morning, 30 hours since we left Melbourne. Went outside and it was so cold!!! 4 degrees! My feet were so swollen from the flight! I could barely walk on so much new padding!
We then worked out how to catch a train to where we were staying, jumped on the tube from Heathrow. Got off where we thought we should and started walking to the hotel. It was so cold, that about half way, we actually had to stop and open our suitcases to get warm clothes out! I was in thongs so was in desperate need of socks and shoes but struggled to put them on as my feet were so fat!! We then carried on and got to our hotel and it was awesome as they let us check in even though it was 7am!
Got to our room, it's ok, bit small but does the job. We're a bit annoyed as we have no fridge, but is definitely ok enough to call home for three nights.
After rugging up properly, we decided to do our first London sightseeing! So we went to the station (found one much closer to us, only about a two min walk) and got an Oyster card (like Myki) and found our way! We got off at the station, and as we walked out of the station and up the steps, the first thing I saw was Big Ben! I was so excited, then if we looked to the left we could see the London Eye and Westminster bridge. There was red double decker buses everywhere and the traffic is actually chaos. There are people everywhere and the most common seems to be French.
We decided to do a round trip of walking, so off we set to find Westminster abbey (we didn't) but we did however go through Hyde park. And it's honestly such a beautiful park. So green and gorgeous with beautiful blossom trees everywhere. We also saw a squirrel! It was so so cute!! We then arrived at Buckingham Palace. It was packed with people and we realised it was because it was time for the changing of the guards. We waited around in the crowds (it's actually hard to see anything there are that many people) but you can hear the guards coming as they are a full band and walk with horses escorting them. They do a full ceremonious change, and then it's all over. We then decided I needed new shoes, as my feet were really sore in my slip on shoes. So decided to go to Oxford St. We walked and walked and walked probably about 3kms stopping to find maps and where we are going constantly. We went past a Marks and Spencer (fancy supermarket) and I had to stop there because I've read about it in all my Jane Green books. We got some salads for dinner, seriously amazing selection, some wine and carried on our hunt for Oxford St. We finally got there, and saw Top Shop and H&M went into both to buy boots, but were so expensive or not nice I didn't get any! By this stage it was 2pm in the afternoon so I had had enough and was so tired I was bordering on hallucinating so we caught the underground back to our hotel. Got in to our hotel and I was so so tired I couldn't stay awake, no matter how hard Carlos tried to keep me awake. So I slept and woke up at 12am ;( wide awake and chirpy. All I can say is thank god for FB!!
