The next day we spent the day basking in the sun & exploring the beautiful lakeside. The place really was spectacular & pretty peaceful so we had a fairly chilled day before spending the evening at Blind Lemons Blues Bar, a very cool spot, where the owner played & regaled us with stories about guitars & blues legends. We had dropped a message to the Irish couple since they were staying in the same village, somewhere down the road. One of the people at our hostel told us that they had popped by and that they would be back shortly. After not hearing from them, we wrote it off and figured we would bump into them in another town.
Feeling pretty recharged we planned our next step, which was to be a fairly serious 10 hour journey back through Antigua & then North to Lanquin. We had an early start & arrived promptly for the bus at which point we realised we had left our lunch in the hostel. After a mad sprint back to retrieve it we then sat & waited for an hour for the bus, typical! We had an hour stop over before our next bus so we found a coffee shop down the road to grab a latte and one of their famous 'cardboard cookies'.. which was surprisingly nice! Taking advantage of the free wifi, we checked facebook to find a message from the Irish... telling us that they had just gotten engaged!! Peter had plucked up the courage in San Marcos a few nights before.. making missing each other the previous night so much more annoying!! Apparently a rabid dog had chased them away from our hostel. Weird! Anyway... Congratulations to you again Peter & Aine!
After a long but fairly relaxing journey (with only 4 of us in the bus, allowing us to stretch out!) we arrived at about 11pm. Our expectations of a few more quiet days were rapidly shattered when we bumped into a drunk Auzzie that we met at Christmas as we checked in, a fair warning of the debauchery that was to follow!
