So with Lost & Found & the accompanying flora & fauna but a distant memory & after a thoroughly forgettable stop in a small coastal town called Quepos where it rained the entire time, we decided to head towards the beautiful beaches of Montezuma.
After 3 hours on a bus in the pouring rain we decided that beaches in the rain kinda suck so we should embrace the climate & head into the rainforest (after all it's right there in the title). We adjusted our course & headed towards the mountain based Monteverde. Three more hours on a fairly steep/vertical/bumpy bus & we arrived in a beautiful mountain town - with some stunning photos from the journey alone! We stayed in an amazingly friendly hostel called 'Pension Santa Elena' where the owners gave us some great advice on things to do & where to go. The following day, loaded up on a breakfast of porridge (how very british) we hit the trees for the biggest & fastest ziplining the town had to offer! We don't do things by halves! We did 12 lines of varying lengths & speeds, a rappel, a Tarzan swing & their big attraction - a Superman line! The Superman is where you are strapped in lying horizontally and slide head first above the trees & feel like a hero! I can only assume the Tarzan is so named because when they shove you off the platform without warning & the harness grabs you in the 'loincloth area' you let out a scream that the King of the Jungle himself would be proud of! After all this activity we decided we deserved a beer... until we realised it was only 10.30am!
To round off the mountain experience we hiked to the Twisted Fig - a tree growing downwards from the canopy that you can climb up inside using the tree itself as a ladder, trully amazing! We then walked to watch the best sunset we have seen so far (from a bar obviously)! Gotta love happy hour!
