The jungle became our home when we got to Trindade. We stayed at the Sea and Forest Yoga hostel, which although named a hostel felt more like a retreat. Our double bed cabin 'Hummingbird' was within Serra da Bocaina National Park. Here the Atlantic rainforest is said to have more biodiversity per square foot than the Amazon. I was on snake altert watching the floor and got some hefty mosquito bites but the upside was the wildlife you saw without leaving your room. My favourite was an animal that looked like a massive guinea pig... Still not quite sure of the official name.
The natural setting with a river cascading through had the zen factor but to take you there a little further was yoga everyday at 5pm. The yoga platform was incredible, a wood panneled studio softly lit looking out in to the forest. We were lucky to have one on one session with a great instructor Pete, I say we as Rory joined in. Rory thoughts on yoga before was 'that it was something that women do and involved a lot of stretching'. However, he's a changed man and is now talking about engaging his bonders and the difference between warrior 1 and 2.
Early bed times in Trindade allowed us to get up at 6am to go to the Natural Pool (that is an alarm worth waking up for) . Our life guru Pete (we started to think that he knows everything possible - he got us at the yoga but he's also writing a book about different religions /faiths based on 4 years travelling the world from India, Turkey to Japan) told us we had go at that time and no later. After walking for an hour through the beach and forest accompanied by our own stray dog Barry we hit the pool. It was quite breath taking as we were bordered by huge rocks, the pool was completely isolated and the water was so still we were able to see hundreds of colourful fish snorkeling.
It was mostly rainy whist we were there being the rain forest... but we had a bright sunny day before we left. Trindade comes out to the fore during this time, it's a hippy place with graffiti walls of Bob Marley, market stalls and small local restaurants. We went to the beach with our new tanned Argentine friends. Almost one month in the questions are still coming, 'is everyone in England as white as you?'. It was a bit of Spanglish again and I approached conversation of economic classes in Argentina, it probably wasn't the easiest. However, we came away with the best thing we could learn from them which was the top wine brands to buy in Argentina. This included: Trumpeter, Tukma, Callia, Alma Mora, Finca Las Moras, La Linda and El Cafayate. An amazing prospect after the lack of wine in Brazil.
After our 2 days there it was back to Paraty (which we could finally leave!). Our time in Brazil almost over and just a 24 hour bus journey to the Iguazu Falls to finish off!
