Rach, you will get a TON of compliments on your accent over here - people LOVE it!!
Mum, actually yeah, it was an American guy at work (one of the same ones who laughed at me for my ignorance about Yao Min) who was updating me on the status of the Kiwis, which I found kinda funny cos it's not nearly as big over here as back home. I had hardly heard anything about it.
As English As They Come..
After reading today in the NZ Herald about how young New Zealanders are sounding more and more Kiwi - eating their 'fush and chups before going to bid' and 'my pin has run out of unk'( which always reminds me of Mrs Forgie who has a particularly Kiwi accent, I always think).. I'm glad a smidgen of English is seeping into some people's speech!
And have your friends over there, more importantly, been celebrating Dean Barker's success, thinking of sporting Kiwi heroes? Its great news, isn't it?
Practically The Queen...
How dare they not know who my husband is!?
I got told yesterday that i had a nice accent - for the first time in my life hehe. It was from an english woman and she thought she could detect some english in my voice, do u think mum would be proud?
Alice
Really? I so don't remember that!
What was my poem??
Highwayman Reciter
glad the pôetry enthusiast didnt explain who the highwayman reciter was or I would probably have no friends right now...
alice, how can u not get top grades for your recital when someone (not mentioning mum's name) 'encouraged' us to learn poetry to recite to visiters... how utterly humiliating hehe. I remember mine was about a bunny rabbit and came with actions... (the poor visitors!)
Alice
Ok, the earlier one was actually meant to say:
And don't ask me to explain what lines like this mean: "leaves, like the things of man, you with your fresh thoughts care for, can you?"
... Must be all that hard maths messing with my head!
Alice
PS: Yes, well it is pretty gruelling maths really isn't it. What a strain it must be on your brain. I imagine anyone must have to go lie down after doing such difficult sums in their head.
Alice
Well, next time you call you are in for a TREAT!! You can hear the whole of "Spring and fall: to a young child"... for free even!
Disclaimer: It is not nearly as happy as the title suggests it is. Unfortunately.
And don't ask me to explain what lines like "leaves, like the things of man, you with your fresh thoughts care for, fan you?"
Poetry Enthusiast
Well, I'd like to hear about the recitation..
as one who has tried to enthuse her daughters for years with quotes, and poetry readings..
and who has one daughter who can recite 'The Highwayman' I think, though in seemed to be missing a few bits when last heard in Nairobi.
xx
ps worst thing about this message board is having to do the maths sums - poetry yes, maths I'd rather not!
Slack Updater
Well, if you really want to hear about my "exiting" studies, midterms, essays etc I could update? But then I might bore someone to death.
