After recovering from camp with some R ‘n’ R on Tuesday, we’ve had a pretty busy week. Mornings have been spent on campus, talking and lunching with students, and afternoons have generally been spent prepping for evening activities. Wednesday night we had Cool Café, with a mammoth turnout – 27 people, which is phenomenal compared with the usual; Thursday we had an English class followed by an evangelical bible study; and last night we watched ‘Superman Returns’ amongst other activities.
This morning Dave, Johnny, James and I bussed up to Phitsanulok for one final day and night here. This arvo we’re practising our prodigal son skit and songs, and preparing games for the Christmas party tonight. Some of these students we’ll see for the last time, though hopefully a lot of them will come down to Nakhon Sawan – about an hour and a half by “pig truck” - for Thursday’s farewell party.
One student in particular I know I'll especially miss; she calls me her nong soew or little sister. Like Yusuke, she breaks the mould. She’s got a loud voice, and an even louder laugh, speaks fantastic English, has an amazing story of how she came to know Jesus, and is incredibly friendly. Not that those things are exceptional here, but they’re characteristics which really stand out to me.
She gave me a scarf today – goodness knows where she got it from because surely they don’t wear scarves in Thailand?! I don’t see when they’d ever have the need… It may just come in handy when I reach England and France however.
Another student gave me some very styley Thai pants - kinda like pirate pants - as a Christmas present; they’re very comfy. I initially thought she had grossly overestimated how large falangs are because the waist looked like a woman’s size 20! It took me a while to figure out that you actually need to fold it, then tie it, so it can fit nearly any size. Silly me.
