Alice's Travels
hey guys,
I'm now in Queestown in the south of the South island and action capital of the world! Arrived here yesterday after a fun filled morning spent at puzzling world. It sounds really geeky but its full of mazes and illusions and stuff, awesome place. then made our way down south where the landscape changed to rugged dry land but its still stunning.
Our next stop was at the Kawarau bridge which is where the first commercial bungy jump happened and is the home of the bungy. I had been saying for weeks that I would never ever do one and watching the films and seeing the ropes etc just confirmed that to me. it just looks like a sport for nutters. So i went out to the viewing point and watched about half our coach take the plunge....and then my addrennalin started going....and me and one of my friends just decided to go for it.
We had to run to the desk to pay before we could change our minds and before I knew it i was standing at the top of the bridge and a woman was putting me in the harness and another guy strapped my feet together in a TOWEL..hmmm.
he assured me that the cord could hold 2 tonnes and bungy was extremely safe-no one has ever died from a jump, but this didnt do anything for my fears because it was the actual jump I was worried about.
They say it takes something from within to make you jump off and you have to dig deep to summon the guts to do it because they will never push anyone off. i thought I'd be standing there for ages but he counted to five and I took off.
It was the strangest, most liberating thing I've ever done. The sensation goes against everything that is natural but is over so quick then there is a bit of swinging around and the people below in the boat pass you a pole to grab so they can haul you in.
My legs were like jelly when I was in the boat but it was the most amazing buzz-UNBELIEVABLE. I even enjoyed it which i never thought I would. So pleased i went for it.
Got into Queenstown for our group photo, booked some more activites for our time here and then went out in the evening. Because this place is a haven for travellers we've met up with people here from all different parts of our trip. went to a crazy bar where drinks are served in teapots and had a great night. met some brilliant people here, but everyone goes separate ways after here, boo!
