Alice's Travels
hello from Naviti,
Arrived at Korovou resort on Naviti to be greeted by the welcome song from the staff. We were staying in another Bure but this one wasn't that pretty and was so hot inside. It didn't matter too much though because we didnt spend a lot of time sleeping. We got straight into the pool where we spent the first day and got a bit of sun bathing in aswell. At night the staff put on entertainment and danced for us then got all of us up to dance. It was really nice to have other people around again and we met some nice girls travelling from Australia and germany on holiday.
The next day we booked on to the village trip and were taken by boat to see a village on Naviti island. We were welcomed by a ceremony in which we all had to drink a cup of Kava til the bowl was finished. This is a local custom and somewhat of a special occassion but it wasnt that pleasant. It was like a bowl of salty, dirty, muddy water that apparently has drug like properties if you drink enough (no chance of that thank you very much). The woman set out all their home made jewellery and me and jenny bought matching coral necklaces (sad I know but we felt obligated to seeing that its their only income source). then were taken to the local school and the children sang for us which was excellent. Before we went we saw the man they call "Gekko man" coz he climbs to the top of the tallest coconut tree, knocks them all down then runs down head first like a lizard-have never seen anything like it!!
The entertainment that night was a fire dance show and was absolutely awesome. Me and jenny both fell in love with a dancer called Moses. The next day we went snorkelling and saw loads of fish and coral. Was a really good morning. The rest of the day spent by the pool chilling fiji style.
Sunday was jenny's birthday and a slightly strange one. Her presents consisted of chocolate, ice cream from the boat and a diet coke which was all that was available and definately going to have to celebrate somewhere more civilized.
Our last night was quite sad. We danced more with the Bula boys but the sunsets, good food and swimming pool were hard to say goodbye to.
