Hi guys, Been in San francisco for 3 days now so just wana update you on the goings on. Woke up on saturday at some ridiculously early hour and went out for a real american breakfast of pancakes and syrup, then we bought an all day pass to ride the cable car which was awesome. We took it down to the marina where you get a great view of the bay, alcatraz and the golden gate. Then we looked around fishermans wharf which is the tacky-blackpool part of san fran but the sun came out and we grabbed some lunch then rode the tram back to union square and got prime places hanging on to the pole at the very front. was quite scary when the guy let go of the hand brake down the steepest hills though. After this we went shopping round the classy bit of town, popping into macy's and all the nice shops, but unfortunately the budget doesnt stretch to actually buying anything. For dinner we got a pizza slice-one of those that hangs over the plate. Felt really american doing that and it was such good value. Then yesterday we woke up early again to catch our day trip to Alcatraz prison. Got the bus from near our hostel which was meant to take us all the way but then the driver shouted "end of the line" and we were in the middle of no-where. Luckily he was really helpful and extended our tickets to let us travel back to where we should have got off. Were really pushed for time at this point so almost had to run to the ferry terminal. When we got there it was really really cold and chucking it down with rain-not the weather that any of us had prepared for-and looking around at the other tourists in san francosco jumpers and jackets-nobody else had prepared for either. The ferrry crossing was only about 5 minutes and we got to the otherside feeling a bit grumpy coz of the cold and wet. the tour took us through the prison cells, the solitary confinement rooms and told us about the famous inmates and escape attempts. Was quite an eery place but I didn't think the tour was that informative and wasnt exactly the ideal conditions for it. Glad I have experienced it though. We got back and dried off, watching some US tele and then bought a starbucks and our dinner. Leave on our shuttle bus to LA tommorrow so we're thinking of taking in the golden gate bridge today coz its slightly less cloudy and a bit warmer. Can't wait for some sun. Will post again when we're in los angeles. ps: miranda had a cheese muffin for breakfast-note to self, not a good choice!!
