Arrived at san francisco airport last night after an 11 hour flight and after a lengthy queue at customers we found our way to the train, called the BART system which does a loop round the bay. We got off at Powell station and arrived in a very chilly 7 degrees with our backpacks breaking our backs. Walked a few blocks to get to the hostel which seems pretty basic but is ok and near the centre of town. We had a bit of time to chill and I re-packed my backpack binning some of the extra clothes and stuff that I will buy again when I need them. Then we set off looking for somewhere to eat and the city was pretty alive with all the designer shops catching miranda's eye and a suprising amount of beggers which wasn't the best first impression. After trekking around for a bit it was evident we just needed to eat and sleep so we went to a wicked 50's style diner and tried to get through the mamouth portions but our bodies were telling us it was 3 in the morning and eating seemed very sureal. Grabbed some essentials from the convenience store where the guy was really friendly and then climbed into bed at a reasonable time and slept right through for 11 hours so we are pretty much on track with time now (however, there's no waking jenny!!). Got some sight seeing planned and hopefully will get more of a chance to see more of the real San francisco rather than this back-end bit. Hoing to book our trip to Alcatraz today and ride a tram. Would also be quite nice to see some other travellers because we're in a room of 4 at the moment with the 4th bed unoccupied-perfect for the first night when we all tired and grumpy but hoping more will come along soon.
