Greetings all!!
We've been having a few technical hitches and this is our 3rd attempt at posting the blog, so fingers crossed!
We have been in Oz since Tuesday afternoon, and have certainly been busy and ticked off some mjor things!
After a quick wardrobe change into shorts and flip flops we picked up our hire car and headed North towards Daintree. We were self catered and so stopped at a brilliant farmers market en route as unsurprisingly supermarket options are limited in the rainforest!!
We crossed the Daintree river on a brilliant little ferry and entered a whole new world. As soon as you crossed the river, suddenly the road was going straight through thick rainforest. We found our accommodation, which sadly didn't exactly live up to expectations, and after a some what soggy microwave pizza we went to sleep.
After a slightly restless nights sleep (the forest is incredibly loud at night!) we set off on our first full day of exploring! We headed straight to the Discovery Centre, which with aerial walkways and a canopy tower really gave a great opportunity to look at the forest close up. Ali had a great laugh at struggling to take my picture as my pale complexion was causing too much glare... charming indeed.
Next stop was Cow Bay Beach, quite a spot. It is the only place in the world where you can have two feet in different world heritage sites, the rain meets the reef. It was a glorius afternoon and we were the only people on the entire beach... and then, Ali proposed!!!!!!!
As a ring is awaiting me at home (eeeeeee!!) he proposed with a beautiful flower. After confirming it wasn't some sort of joke, I of course said yes! We managed to get a photo after carefully balancing the camera on a tree!
The next morning brought Valentine's Day, and jungle surfing! Zip-wiring through the rainforest, and it was absolutely brilliant!!It was a beautiful morning and it was just the two of us and the guides so we really got our money worth! After a smoothie to re-boost much needed sugar levels, we decided to head to Port Douglas a day earlier than planned to civilisation to celebrate our engagement :-)
Ali shall continue our tale...
After checking in and having a nice dip in the pool we headed out to dinner at On the Inlet fish restaurant where I ate a fish the size of a small cow. I couldn't FINish it though and felt a bit GILLty (OK enough of the terrible puns). We had a lovely meal and enjoyed a bottle of sparkling Tasmanian wine to celebrate. The following day we properly chilled out spending some time on the beach and in the sea (in the small area netted off from the stingers), in the pool and reading our books. We also booked our trip for the following day to the Great Barrier Reef.
So yesterday we headed out on SilverSonic to the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs. We went to 3 sites and snorkelled amongst reef fish, coral, Nemo, sharks and the dreaded jellyfish.... It was an aboslutely amazing day though and we took loads of photos - some posted here. Now that brings you up to date - next up the Whitsundays for a few days on a boat...
Hope everyone is well. Speak soon
Much love
Caroline and Ali
