Hello all!
Hope that you are all well and enjoying the great British weather
So following on from our last entry we have certainly been a little busy!
Our Monday in Brisbane was very very rainy indeed, so we just headed into the city to have an explore around galleries etc, and actually headed to the cinema. Saw Silver Linings Playbook that we had missed at home, so that was a positive!
On the Tuesday, still in heavy rain, we decided to head to Australia Zoo, which was about an hour away from where we were staying. Despite the weather we had an awesome time there! The crocodile show was immense... see pics, and Caroline got to finally cuddle a koala and feed kangaroos!!!
Wednesday was our last full day in the Brisbane area, so we went up to Mt Cootha for brunch, which has an awesome view over the city and miles around. In the afternoon we headed out to Pimpama to see Steve and his children, although the eldest was poorly it was lovely to see them all, and they had certainly changed a little in the last 7 years!
We were rather excited when Thursday came to pick up our Campervan, and it didn't disappoint! After an overnight stop in Main Beach on the coast to have dinner with Nick Gerbanas and Phoebe we were off!! We stocked up our fridge and gin supplies and headed south.
We had both been looking forward to heading to a town called Coolongatta about an hour south, unfortunately for the entire 48 hours we were there it poured CONSTANTLY! The Quiksilver Surf Pro was starting the weekend we were there, but unfortunately the weather was so bad the competition was delayed so we only got to see some people practicing... though still the best surfing we've seen!
After getting slightly fed up with the weather, it was time to head further south in search of sunshine, next stop Byron Bay. After finding a great camping site right by the beach all we needed was sunshine! Whilst waiting for that... we embarked on our first surf lesson! Needless to say Ali found the whole experience far more easy than Caroline... though we both stood up so that's all that counts!
The next morning... THE SUN CAME OUT!!! WHOOOOOP! After a further surf lesson it was time to chill out on the beach, and chill out we did!!
It was then time for some serious driving to start, so we headed down the coast to Coffs Harbour, a nice little town, but nothing much to report. We set off early the next day to make it down to Port Stephens and Nelsons Bay for lunch the following day. Now that was a beautiful spot! Our campsite was just off 'One Mile Beach' so pretty much explains itself!
Time then to head off to Hunter Valley for some wine research... sadly Ali had picked up a rather nasty ear infection by this point so we spent the morning going from hopsital to doctor trying to get him some drugs! Due to Ali's drugs, he then drove around the vineyards... lucky Caroline! Drinking wine in the midday sun proved rather tiring, so after a lovely lunch and two vineyard visits (plus a rather smelly cheese shop) we headed back to our site.
Another early start to get to SYDNEY!!! We arrived over the harbour bridge, and after dropping off our van made it to our accomm. Since being here we've been to an art opening (thanks Jasha!), walked around circular quay, darling harbour, the rocks, visited the aquarium, and climbed the bridge!! It's been a tad knackering in the heat with all the walking, but we are loving the city and looking forward to heading to Manly and Bondi over the next couple of days.
We head off to Melbourne on Wednesday, where we plan to head out on the Great Ocean Road, explore the city and stalk Mark Webber... cannot wait!!
Love to you all, and hope you enjoy the pics
