Greetings all!!
Okay so since our last update a week or so ago... a fair few bits have happened!
We returned our little hire car into Cairns and had a day to kill before catching our overnight bus. It seems theres not a lot to do in Cairns! We chilled out by the 'lagoon', which is infact a swimming pool area with loads of seating and BBQ areas, pretty cool space that we would never see back home! We met up with Caroline's work colleague Chanelle, who had the most excitable reaction upon hearing our engagement news!
Our bus left Cairns just after midnight, and 10.5 ours later we would arrive in Airlie Beach... ouch! We did manage to sleep but it's fair to say it wasn't a very comfortable experience, we're glad that was our one and only overnight bus experience!
Whilst approaching Airlie Beach there was a momentary panic that the road in was flooded, the bus drivers reaction being we simply wouldn't go there...!! Luckily as we got closer the road was absolutely fine so we headed in and checked in for our sailing trip. We boarded our catamaran 'Whistunday Blue' a few hours later, and our amazing little adventure started! Airlie Beach had had a few days of reeeeeally bad rain, but the sun came out for us and the weather was glorious. There were 3 other couples on board, plus a skipper and a hostess. We headed off into the islands and had a magical 2 hour sail to get to our first overnight spot. Over the next couple of days we spent our time snorkelling, chillng on the boat, eating, drinking, watching sunsets, chatting and swimming with turtles!!!!! Definitely an incredible expereince, especially when one started chomping at a rather large jelly... go turtle!! The boat trip was one of the more expensive things we have done here, but it was worth every penny and was a wonderful way to celebrate our engagement.
Upon reaching dry land (took a while to get used to!) we had a night in Airlie beach. It turns out there is not a great deal to do there really, so we just had a barbie and headed to sleep!
Thursday saw us arriving in Brisbane where we were greeted by Catherine and Arthur at the airport, it has been so lovely catching up and sleeping in a home on a very comfy bed! We have been to the coast, where the recent weather here has completely eroded away a whole beach, it was quite a site. The sunshine came out yesterday so we headed to Southbank in the city which was really beautiful and had a cheeky cocktail at noon!
Last night we headed out to watch a super 15 rugby union game with Ben and Tim, their local team the Reds won 25-17. We then had a couple of drinks with everyone before heading back. Everyone has been over today for a big lunch which was awesome. although the rain seems to be back!
The whole of the East Coast seems to be being slaughtered by storm after storm, even a tornado last night somewhere north of Sydney. We hope that things will improve before we head out in our camper, but Ali keeps telling me there is nothing we can do about it... doesn't stop me moaning!!
We're heading out over the next couple of days to see a few sights, and then meeting up with my cousin Steve on Wednesday before picking up our camper on Thursday.
We definitely seem to be doing and seeing a lot in our time here, and its incredible to think we've still got so much to come. As long as the weather stays warm and only a few showers we should have a whale of a time!!
Hope everyone is well, back in 4 weeks!
