Excellent day in Florence. Lunch by Il Duomo, Academy gallery with musical instruments such as Cristofori pianos and harpsichords and the world's first upright piano, and of course the statue of David. Well worth the 11€ entrance fee, just for David. It's magnificent to see the real thing - the level of detail is astounding. Lunch at restaurant right next to Il Duomo. Set menu of bruschetta, spaghetti bolognese and a drink for 10€ each. Much better than we have found elsewhere. Tried to go in Florence buildings this morning but all shut for Sunday services. Going to try again this afternoon.

Tents not exactly peaceful (bar and club noise from all over Florence until early morning) but surprisingly comfy. We're shaded by olive trees so it's not hot at all. Going to do Florencey things today. There is a hoopoe flying around the campsite, and Italian sparrows instead of normal sparrows.

Arrived into the station after a long day of travelling on slow trains and the Eurostar from Milan. Bit of faff at the station to buy train tickets to Rome, and to find the bus stop. About a 25 minute bus journey to campsite, which is on a hill overlooking the city. The views are spectacular. The campsite is just next to Piazzale Michelangelo, a large open space with the usual street sellers and a replica statue of David. Lots of tourists here for the view. At a ...
