Excellent day in Florence. Lunch by Il Duomo, Academy gallery with musical instruments such as Cristofori pianos and harpsichords and the world's first upright piano, and of course the statue of David. Well worth the 11€ entrance fee, just for David. It's magnificent to see the real thing - the level of detail is astounding. Went to Palazzo Vecchio (the old palace), but the entrance fee for the museum was quite steep. Instead we went to Ponte Vecchio (the old bridge), which has great views down the Arno river. Outside Palazzo Vecchio, we happened to be in the right place at the right time and caught the Giovanni Battiste parade, which seems to be an annual Florence tradition on this day. Not sure what it was all about, but everyone was in medieval dress, and there were drummers and trumpeters, flag wavers, riflemen, crossbowmen and lots more. Will find out tonight. The replica of David is here too, and thats the one in the picture, as you cant take photos in the gallery. There is a fireworks display tonight at Piazzale Michelangelo, which we will see from our campsite.
