Train from Prague to Dresden, Dresden to Leipzig. Leipzig is noticeably smaller and less touristy than most of the places we have been to. There are fewer people that speak English here, so ordering a Burger King meal was always going to be disastrous.
Arrived and proceeded to get lost trying to find the hostel. Turned out that it was a short walk on the main road from the station. Room is big and fairly empty, but very clean.
Short walk to town centre, which is small and doable in about an hour. We went to the Bach Museum, which was the best composer museum we have been to. It was much more high-tech than the others, with modified iPod Touches for audio guides, and lots of touch screens and various buttons to press along the way. Particularly good was the Media Room, where there were screens from which you could access recordings of every single Bach piece. There were some original cantata manuscripts, but they were more likely to have been written by a copyist than Bach himself.
Outside, we saw the famous Bach memorial statue, then went into St Thomas' Church where Bach worked for 27 years. There was a brass ensemble rehearsing in the organ gallery, which we listened to for a bit.
In the evening, we went to another church up past the zoo, which is really close to the hostel, and saw a performance of Carmina Burana, but the arrangement for 2 pianos and percussion, not the full orchestral one. Even so, the choir was excellent, the soloists, especially the baritone were terrific and the conductor turned around to sing the Roast Swan solo. Money well spent.
Played some free table football in the hostel before going to bed.
