We had another go at breakfast this morning, and it was the same, crappy old bread rolls and jam, but I did get hot chocolate, which was pretty awesome.
After breakfast we decided to have a go at the metro, which is about 200m away (the main train station).
When you first go into the station, it's really nice, lots of shops, clean, busy, but then you have to go down about 5 stories before getting to the line we wanted, and it was completely dirty, smelt like pee, just filthy.
The train station is in a pretty bad area of town.
So we took the metro to Ottaviano, near St. Peter's.
We got there at around 8.30, cause the receptionist said the museum opens at 9.30, (for the line we were expecting to get in).
We expected right, as there was a line all down the side of the block, and then round the corner and halfway down that block.
We thought we would be there for ages, but we actually only had to wait about 50minutes, which was better than the 2 or 3 hours we thought it was going to be, and we were always in the shade, so it wasn't hot.
Trudy bought another scarf to tie around her legs, because her shorts were too short. A bit harsh, considering I saw a couple of dudes with shorter shorts than her.'
When we got inside, it was 15 euros each to enter, which we didn't really think about, as it was something we had to see.
Now where do we start... we thought, we actually just walked randomly around the place, the first museum we saw was the Egypt collection.
The museum is fantastic, just really good pieces of art. Sculptures, paintings, drawings, pottery, everything.
The main attraction was of course the Capella Sistina.
It was really beautiful, the ceiling is great, but I think the piece behind the altar is even better.
It is really nice, and the crowds in there could tell you that. You're not allowed to take photos, or speak too much, but I might of accidently done a cbit of both.
Whoops!
After the Sistine Chapel, we ventured to the courtyard where we ate our packed lunch, in the shade.
You can see the dome atop St. Peter's from there.
We looked in another wing full of statues which was cool before leaving. We were in there for over 3 hours, and when we got out, there was actually no line at all!
So if you want to visit the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican museums, go around midday, because everyone tries to go early to beat the crowds, and there ends up being crowds early, and no-one later.
We walked in the hot sun to St. Peters square, where we admired the building and massive courtyard. After waiting in another line for 10 minutes, it was actually longer than the museum line, we got through to the church.
It also is a massive work of art, so big, the inside is pretty amazing, the paintings, and the detail on everything is amazing.
We had a nice time looking around, and left after a bit. Only after we had left had I seen people on the dome, and realised you could climb it. Trudy on the other hand didn't tell me, as she didn't feel like climbing something again.
We filled up our bottles from the Rome fresh spring water...hahaha, and walked down via Della Conciliazione to the Castel San Angelo.
It is an old castle, that is now used as a museum.
We were planning on going in, but decided we had had enough of museums, and the only reason would be to see the views from the top.
After that we walked back to this road that took us to a metro station, (the one we got off in the morning) and went back to Termini.
We watched a movie in the hotel, as it was too hot for us again, before going out to dinner. The restaurant (yes a restaurant this time...not just a kebab) was called Aquila Nera and it was about 30 seconds from the hotel entrance.
Trudy had a entree of Macaroni a la Rague, Chicken breast with roast potatoes and fruit salad. I had spaghetti Carbonara, Chicken breast and mixed salad, and lemon sorbet. It was a 15 euro set menu for each, which we thought was really good. Trudy's pasta was great, and the chicken breast was really quite big.
A nice dinner.
After dinner we went back to the hotel, watched a movie then went to sleep.
