I had a fairly laid back day today after a vaguely nerve racking start. Due to overbooking at Kiwi Ex I didn't manage to get on the bus so went to the backup plan - hitch hike. A quick trip with an Israeli guy after half an hour left me waiting at Fox Glacier for 2 hours listening to music, dancing at the side of the road and getting a potato topped pie until Mark the Ugandan finance man picked me up in his camper van and brought me all the way down to Wanaka! The roadie was stunning, the water blue as, the mountains incredible and the chat flicking between serious opinions and film discussions. He is an 80's action guy and I apparently and a comedy/good hearted/musical man.
Last night I/we caught up on all the gossip over some good drinks (including one cocktail which was luscious and had apricot jam in it. Yum! look forward to rettempting that at home, i think there was also Southern Comfort in it) with Welsh Tom and his camper buddy Lucas. Lucas also showed us a new pool game you can play between 3/5 people which lasts for AGES (as long as you have access to the fallen balls).
Yesterday morning we walked on a glacier!!! That was a really cool feeling ;) but he helicopter ride up and down was where the real excitement was. I will now definitely e investing in a tandem hang glide because I find the feeling of flying really euphoric (whether the use of that word is right is tbc). Just to confirm the bus ride between Fox and Wanaka was the better than any other in the world so far. Tonight we had lamb burger ball things stir fried with veg and instant noodles and was a success! Hoorah! $3.20 each.
I was looking at investing in a $99 sale board this morning if I missed the bus. But that is now just a price target to go by since the bus fitted me on! I will have lots of time to practice in Queenstown. I just need to find a disused car park or something. And some body guards just in case I fall off. Which I won't.
