The sun is shine on the end of our mini road trip. The hostel is mint, called The Mousetrap and there is indeed a mouse sitting on the top. There are 3 mini kitchens which can lead to funny confrontations and intense card games. (Fairy jack and evil queen!)
We sand boarded on some massive dunes yesterday leaving Holly with a bent thumb, but I got her some frozen diced onion and chocolate for that. Another chance to practice my first au skills. You know if I wasn't a scout I don't think her thumb would have survived the night. The past 3 days have been a mega laugh, great fun and we made an awesome foursome, the car, 'Goldmember', included. Another group of friends I have to say goodbye to too soon.
Fact: The 2 oceans at the top of Cape Regina (Tasman and Pacific) are believed to be having sex in Maori legend. And on top it off the island in the distance is called Panting Breath...
Food: MAN OH MAN. It wasn't the ritz but man dinner on Wednesday was amaze balls. Excuse the slang.
We went into Countdown (the supermarket not TV show) with no inspiration except to cook. Within minutes we had spotted half price mini chicken goujons, straight in the basket. What goes well with chicken goujons I hear you ask? Well, chicken spiced steak chips of course! Into the basket. But that doesn't sound very healthy... 500g of stir fried veg including carrot, cauliflower and pineapple? Yum! Basket. Desert? Why not?! What is cheapest? Berry sorbet? Wellllll that's great for cleansing the mouth, whack it in! [ I probably don't need to mention that we sneaked 2 value bottles of white wine in there do I?] We figured we needed a starter, toast and humous, done.
It was magnificent, all we added was some pepper to the veg and cheese to the oven pan and half an hour later we were the envy of the hostel. $11 each, better than a slap up dinner! (Last night was $5 pizzas due to fatigue.)
Paihia is lovely.
