How long have I been in the states? Long enough to start spelling San Francisco right! I had a terrible bout of jet lag mixed with culture shock and an ounce of disappointment since I bigged San Francisco up so much in my head. All 3 in small doses added up to slight stress. I will go back and recap the last week in due course, for now...
3 nights out.
1 - Thursday - Seeing a man play an instrument he built himself from pipes was amazing! The act was brilliant, he is a genius with the didgereedoo-come-violin and built lots of little film clips into the show. I bought the cd. It won't be anything like the act because you really have I be there. I was tagging along with his cousin, natalie, who I met in the hostel.
2 - Friday - Return of the kiwi; Nina hooked me and Evan up as he was in SF this week. A drink tuned into a self organised bar crawl and we successfully proved how an app cannot organise a good night like chatting to a bouncer...
We started in Ev's suave and huge hotel bar. Then there was a jazz bar called oz, traitorous I know! We had a great burger there and chatted loads. Next we set out to find a cigar and samba bar. The instructions from our precious bouncer almost got us lost, but we made it. We did not samba. After the initial excitement it was fairly boring so we moved on. About midnight now and we spent half an hour in deep chat in a basement bar somewhere which was pretty empty. Next we accidentally found a place the original bouncer told us about called the Rickhouse or similar where we had some neat cocktails and enjoyed the devour. It was like a bar house with 80's moustached barmen. Finally we went to a huge place, since we reached closing time at 'Rickhouse', but we didn't rate it. It had no character but lots if groups of 'rah-rah' people. I tried a Bloody Mary here. It wasn't good. Are they meant to be spicy?!
And so we went to get a final drink at 0130 in Evan's snazzy hotel bar. But they had stopped serving. We probably didn't need another anyway! Fantastic night. And i really enjoyed hearing about Evans travels in Europe, discussing Sam and the family and the rest.
3 - Saturday - Went out with the hostel staff, very crowded and very mad. I missed Evan.
Which leaves me here in my favourite little park on Nob hill next to a cathedral here I came on my first day in the city to chill.
Food: I had a calzone from little Italy on thurs for dinner, late dinner and breakfast. It was mega!!!
Cooked vodka sauce pasta yesterday with fried carrot. Exciting, no?
The super chilli mince and guacamole burger in Oz bar, spoiled by ridiculously salty chips.
More raisin bread for breakfast!
I am finding my way around the unhealthy food, it helped when I stopped buying pop tarts...
Fact: The Golden Gate Bridge has been going under seismic reconstruction since 2007. The sign assured me that this would not affect how it looks. Apart from the construction teams and scaffolding!
