We woke up on a dirt track by the road after a dodgy sleep. We may have heard sounds of creepy people and a car definitely drove past but the import thing was that we woke up in the expertly pitched tent. Since the first was basically muddy sand the pegs were basically balanced on the ground... The previous night we balanced on the bonnet and admired the stars. I can't remember seeing so many! As Lynette puts it is was hard to make out any constellations because there were so many. So we drove! Not much to see in this part of the states, but more than the Aussie outback for sure.
Which reminds me; an American translation for you... "Sure" in answer to a question such as 'Would you like another hotdog?) means "Yes, please" but sounds more casual and indifferent.
"For sure!" Is also used regularly in the place of "Yes, certainly!"
As the first people at the monument we went a bit crazy taking photos and sprinting between states. As if no one had done it before... There was some chatting with other tourists, one mentioned that there were some fires in Montana. Must email mum. She will be worried!
So having spent enough time running around the intersection of the borders and shoving and pushing each other out of into Arizona (we weren't a fan because they were the first state not to have a "welcome to..." sign amongst other things) we set off into New Mexico.
