Hello,
Its been a while since our last blog update because the internet service wasnt actually that great in Surfers Paradise. We ended up having to spend a week here because there were no beds at all in Byron Bay because of the blues festival that was reaching its peak over the weekend. We decided to just head for Surfers and see what we could find there. It was pretty booked up everywhere because it was easter weekend but we managed to get two beds at a hostel called Aquarius. It had a really nice atmosphere there, partly because there was a bar which everyone partied in! The first night we were there we were pretty tired so we decided to just relax for the evening. We decided we wanted a nandos so trekked for about 2km to the nearest one, (it looked a lot closer on the map!!!) and then watched the 300 at the nearby cinema, which we thought was class!
We headed to the beach the next day and to the heart of Surfers Paradise to check it out! It is a lot more touristy than Byron Bay and a lot busier! Unfortunately on the first day we were there we had a rain shower on the beach so we just checked out a few of the shops. After spending another night in Aquarius, with both of us in a female dorm!?! we headed to our new hostel which turned out to be just as fun! It was run by backpackers so everyone was really chilled out and up for a laugh! We ended up meeting loads of people we had met before aswell; a girl Sammi met in Cheeky Monkeys in Byron Bay, Simon a Swiss guy and three Irish girls that we had met in Newcaslte!
Apart from the first day we were blessed with some good weather so we spent a lot of time down on the beach sunbathing, swimming and relaxing. On one of the nights we went out to an Irish bar after a craving for proper drinks because lets face it the schooners they serve arent a proper drink! I had quite a few pints and sammi a few halfs and ended up getting really drunk and singing along to the tunes they were playing! It was just as well that we werent sight seeing the next day because we were both a bit hungover the next day. We also went to a barbeque night at our hostel which was good fun because we were able to chat with lots of other travellers. We met one guy called michael who was a good laugh and this strange Finnish guy who we found really hard to understand but it was really fun to relax outdoors under a warm night sky with a few cold beers and a nice BBQ!!
Oh we forgot to say that on one of the days we went to a waterpark called WetnWild which was loads of fun! We got the bus there and headed straight for the slides! They had the steepest slide in Australia and there was a really strange one that was like a big funnel and Sammi was screaming all the way down! We got some pictures of us on the rides so you can see sometime! It also has a class wave machine and a dive inn where you could watch movies but only on a saturday! Sammi discovered churros which she now loves. They are long doughnut sticks covered in sugar and cinnamon! We also went in a whirlpool river where you had to stay in your rubber ring but we decided to try and push each other out of ours and were throwing other rings at each other which resulted in us getting told off by this lifeguard!
Lots of love Alex and Sammi xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
