Hello All!
We are a bit behind with our blog writing and fotos but promise will put the fotos up soon! just hard locating a computer that you can upload them on! Anyway our second week in Fiji was brilliant! We decided to go Island hopping, but further than a lot of tourists go. We got something called a Bula pass that allows you 7 days unlimited travel between the islands so we decided to go to 4 so we could spend a bit more time on the more beautiful ones. The island group that we headed out to first of all was called the Yasawas and took about 4 hours to reach on a high speed boat! The first stop over was at an island called Nacula. We were taken from the main boat to shore by a speed boat, and our boat was the only one which didnt have life jackets which was exciting! The first thing that struck us about Nacula was how clear the water was! You could see all the way to the bottom! Our accomodation was quite primitive, a sort of hut called a bure, and electricity was only available from 6 till 11 at night. We arrived around lunch time and decided to go snorkelling straight away! the water was really warm and we spent a while swimming before getting in the middle of some jelly fish when we got far out, so headed back to shore! We met a nice Canadian guy and three irish girls who seemed like good fun and we spent the evening chatting to them.. On the second day we headed to a huge cave on a separate island. Inside the cave the water was really cool and our guide took us swimming through underwater channels into separate passages that were pitch black and required underwater torches to light the tunnels! It was really exciting having to swim underwater to the next passage even though we all started swimming a bit faster when he told us there could be eels in there hahaha..In the afternoon we visited the local village, being led round by one of the owners of our accomodation, and we met the chief, who we got a foto with! He even joined us in the evening for a cava drinking session, which was apparently a big privelege. The next day we headed to our second island, Manta Ray island, which turned out to be a more of a modern resort. We met loads of people here, including a guy from sheffield uni, because it had a really nice dining hall where everyoine sat together with a great view of the bay where the resort is based. We arrived quite late so didnt get to go snorkelling until the next day but when we did we found that there were even more beautiful fish there and we found lots of blue starfish that we took out of the water to take a foto with (we did put them back!) We also went Kayaking to another island nearby to explore a bit!
We then left that island for another in The Naviti group. This was a return to very basic accomodation but we were used to that by now! on the first night I (alex) was invited out by a guy we met there to go spear fishing with him and a local fisherman on the nearby reef. It was fantastic and we caught loadz of fish and cooked some of them up when we got back! Sammi swears that that is the best Calamari shes ever had! Looking back on it though im amazed i didnt shoot myself in the foot with the harpoon gun! We also met back up with the irish girls that we had met in Nacula, so spent the next day relaxing with them at the resort and playing netball. We were going to have a few drinks on one of the nights but the beer cans smelt of fish, since theyd obviously been storing them in the same fridge as the fish, so we decided against that! We left the following day for our final island. This island was called Bounty island and was the home of the first series of celebrity love island! The beach was a beautiful white colour and the water was clear as normal! On the first night we were there we met some more Irish people (they seem to get everyhwere) and had a good evening with them! The next day we decided to walk around the island and visited the celebrity set, which was pretty run down by now! It was soo hot though sop we spent most of the day in the resorts beach side swimming pool which felt like luxury! Unfortunately after that it was time to return to Nadji since we were flying out the next day! We both agreed that the island hopping was one of our favourite things so far, definately one of the most beautiful (as the fotos will hopefully show).
Love Alex and Sammi xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
