Bula from Fiji!
We arrived safe and sound on tuesday and got picked up from the airport and taken to our hostel where we have a villa all to ourselves! With air con - bonus. We met a local here called Vincent on the first day who introduced us to the local drink 'Cava', which looks like muddy water! They drink it out of big bowls and it really numbs your tongue! On the first night a guy called Mark came up to us and said he was organising an ice breaker with all the young poeple staying here and asked for 10 dollars each to go and get some bounty rum which is 60% alcohol! It turned into the most bizzarre night ever standing under a marqui in the rain in the middle of a big field playing drinking games! We met two girls who were really nice, Rachel, and Karen. Also four guys from England. We found out that Mark wa a bit of a psycho so we have some really funny stories to tell you when we get back about him!!! The next day we went into town to explore, they have a Nandos but we havent eaten there yet! There are lots of con men trying to sell you things and are always giving you there cards but we managed to avoid quite a few! So far we have found the Fijian people really really friendly and helpful! On one of the days we went to Deanrau island with Rachel and Karen. Denarua island is where all the five star hotels are including the Hilton, and we just went around and used there pool and facilities, which was sneaky but fun! The weathe ris getting better now, and today we went on a cruise to Robinson Crusoe Island! We went snorkelling, and on bush treks, and generally lazed in some hammocks. They also cooked us lunch Fijian style, (lovo), where all the food is cooked underground on piping hot rocks! it tasted so good we could do that everyday so cant wait to go island hopping! The also did local dances and fire and knife shows. We did some crab races and went to see a 150 year old turtle. The Fijian (Jo) wanted to show us an egg as the turtle was laying them underground and we could see it breathing, but the owner said no he shouldnt disturb it. But Jo was determined to show us the egg and they got into a massive argument with swearing and everything and Jo got the sack. We were all feeling really awkward as the owner stormed off down the beach when a Fijian guy jumped out of the sand from underneath the shell! It was sooo funny they had us going for ages! The Fijians are so lively and laid back its a good atmosphere all the time! We have planned our island hopping now, we are going to the Yasawas, and Bounty Island where Celebrity Love Island was filmed so we are really looking forward to that! Anyway we hav to go now as the internet is expensive here! Speak soon lots of love from Sammi and Alex.
P.S We have tickets to the recording of The Late Late Show guest starring Eric Bana in Los Angeles! woooo cant wait!!! also we will put the photos up later! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
