Our first full day in Madrid coincided with International Museum Day. That meant free entry to both the Prado and Reina-Bornemitsza Art Museums. I don't care what your level of art appreciation is, free art is beautiful art. The paintings at these 2 galleries are among the best in the world. From Goya, Velazquez and El Greco to Titian, Tintoretto and Bernini, the Prado is a master showcase.
The Reina was featuring a temporary exhibit on Impressionist and Abstract artists, including Monet, Cessane, Pollack, Degas, and several Dutch masters (Rembrandt, et al). Rayne was in heaven and floated through the halls of both museums with a smile frozen on her beautiful face.
Later, we watched the sunset fade behind the Royal Palace and Cathedral, followed by a stroll through the Labyrinthine streets of Old Madrid. We ate at a small crepe's and ice cream joint, followed by hot cups of cappuchino.
