Arrived Milford Sound last night being greeted by the resident dolphins playing in the bow wave. It doesnt matter how many times you experience dolphins in the bow wave...its always like the first time.
While in Milford we found a berth for the boat which came with a nice hot shower. Woke up in the morning to considerable air traffic. Planes and helicopters appeared to be arriving and departing every 5-10 minutes. Droves of tourists appeared from no where. We took a stroll down to the ferry terminal where tourists where being shunted of an on ferries like cattle.
The place is well maintained by friendly Department of Conservation staff. The lanscape is spectacular with almost verticle rocky mountains reaching for the sky and nearby glaciers. Water depths in the sound are up to 287 m deep so you need a good sinker and plenty of line on your reel.
While in Milford Sound we decided to by a loaf of bread in the port to replenish supplies. A loaf in the port costs around $9.00 and is commonly known as a sandwich. We did find a small kiosk at one of the lodges 15 - 20 min walk from the boat and got bread for around $5.00 a loaf...only just made it as the kiosk closes early. However they were good enough to open up 10 mins after closing to serve us...thanks guys.
After our tiki tour (walk) we headed for the showers and then took off to George Sound at 1200 hrs.
