We eventually arrived in Vienna in the late afternoon. We missed our train due to getting the tram in the wrong direction and having to walk back. Then when we got on the right tram there was an accident due to the snow so we couldn´t go anywhere. We ended up having to walk to the train station and waiting for the next train for an hour.
We found our hostel and we weren´t too impressed. It was like a hotel, very clean and new but no real atmosphere. There was no social area or kitchen to prepare food. As much as I enjoyed the pristine shower I would have preferred somewhere a bit less sterile, so we were glad we were only staying for two nights. Anyway, we headed into the town centre, got a map and had a quick look round the town centre. It was very expensive, so we ended up have a McDonald´s as we were starving at that point. After a quick wander we headed back to the hostel for a bit.
That evening we dined out in a local shopping centre about two minutes walk away, which was full of cheap places to eat. We ended up having all you can eat Chinese. I took the opportunity to fill up on fruit and vegetables. It was quite good being in a German speaking country as we could understand a lot of it, and we even tried out a few words here and there. We were thinkging of going to the cinema, but unfortunately all the films were dubbed. (We were hoping for English with subtitles).
In the morning we headed straight for a supermarket to stock up on supplies for the day. We then got the underground to the city centre. We spent a few hours looking around the old town, it was nice. We checked out a couple of old churches but everytime we went in one it was time for mass, so we had to leave straight away. We also saw a massive skating rink in the city centre, which also had small ice racetracks around it which was cool. However, it was extremely pricey so we decided to give it a miss. We also found a few museams which were also overpriced, but we weren´t too bothered about going to them as we have been to quite a few recently. Vienna is a nice city, its just a shame its so expensive, although the exchange rate doesnt really help at the moment to be fair.
That evening we headed to the shopping centre for tea, we had hamburgers in a pool hall. We then realised Champion´s League matches were on that night. Luckily there was a bookies next door where you could watch all three matches at once, and get served beer which was nice.
After a quick go on the internet we got an early night as we had to get up the next day to get the train to Prague...
