Hi everyone,
Sorry we are a little behind with some of our blogs. The hostels we have stayed in recently have charged quite a lot for internet use, and it takes a bit of time to write these blogs, so we decided to leave them for a while and update them all at once. In the next day or two we should have blogs for Vienna, Prague and Berlin, and we have already added the photo albums. we hope you enjoy catching up.
Anyway, the morning after we arrived in Bratislava we decided to have a lie in as we got there quite late, then we went shopping over the road, took advantage of the free laundry, and wrote our blog for Budapest. The hostel was in a decent condition, but they were a bit over the top with the rules and regulations, and it wasn't as fun as some of the other places we have stayed. Still it acted as a good base, and the free laundry was more than enough to make up for it.
We left the hostel in the afternoon and had a quick wander around the local area. For a capital city, the place is really small, and there didn't seem to be a lot of people about. Someone had mentioned the night nefore that there was a national holiday that weekend though, which might explain the lack of activity.
We stopped in a local Slovak pub that our hostel had recommended for lunch (inventively called the Slovak pub) and had some local cuisine. Amy had some goulash, whilst Alan tried some spinach dumplings which were nice enough.
We headed back to the hostel for a while and cooked some pasta pesto for tea. Despite this being Alan's speciality dish at home, we managed to buy some weird pesto and it wasn't very nice. That's our second horrible meal since we set off.
In the evening we went back to the Slovak pub for a few drinks. When we were there earlier it seemed like quite a small place, but we noticed that the rooms just kept going back. It was really nice with original floorboards that were so wobbly and uneven you felt drunk (honestly we weren't!). When we got back we chatted to a couple of Yorkshire lads in our hostel then got some sleep.
The next morning we sorted out our laundry, which had only just dried as the dryers were broken, then bumped into a girl called Emily from Texas. She is working as a opare in Paris and was travelling alone, so she asked if she could tag along whilst we toured the sites, and we were happy to have the company.
We wandered around the town and the castle, both of which were still pretty empty. They were nice but we easily managed to see everything in 2 hours, so we headed to the Slovak pub again for lunch. Afterwards Alan was adament we had to watch the Liverpool vs Man City game, and Emily seemed happy enough to watch a bit of "soccer". Liverpool drew which put Alan in a mood, but we headed back to the hostel and cooked a pasta and salami dish which was really nice. Success!
We chatted a bit more with the two lads from Yorkshire, who gave us a few pointers on Thailand, then we got an early night for the train to Vienna the next day....
