The train journey from Munich to Innsbruck was really scenic. We went right though the mountains and it was a nice sunny day. We were staying with my Austrain friend Kristina who I used to live with in Spain. She met us at the station and we got the bus up to her flat. Innsbruck is a really scenic town right in the mountains. I was amazed by the view she has from her flat , which is quite high up.
We made a curry for tea and drank some special vodka we we had been carrying around since Poland. After that we walked down into the town for a few drinks and a brief look around. It was a pleasent evening. Afterwards we walked all the way back to the flat. It only takes 20 minutes but its uphill all the way!
The next day we decided to go for a hike into the mountains. We went through some forest and soon we were high enough to be in snow. At one point we found our path was blocked by an avalanche which had recently come down. We had to climb over it. After a bit of a steep climb we reached our destination: a small restuarent about halfway up the mountain. Kristina was surprised to find it open. We took a few photos and admired the view before starting on our journey back down...
On the way down the snow was really deep and we had to follow small winding paths through the trees. I found it hard going as my boots had no grip and I fell over many times. As we were higher up, we passed the trail of destruction left back the avalanche we saw earlier. It took us a while to get back and our feet we very cold by then. When we got back Alan went into town to look around and take some pictures but I was tired so I stayed in the flat.
That evening Kristina had to go to a meeting so Alan and I cooked in the flat and then went into town for a few drinks. Kris met us later on in the tapas bar with her friend. We stayed ut for a while then walked home again. We went to bed quite early not looking forward to the 7am start the next day...
