This is Greyfriars Bobby, I didn't see the Disney movie & I don't think I want to as just the thought of this dog staying with his masters grave for 14 years is enough to fill me up. ( I dodge things like that nowadays). He was 16 when died, & the locals would fed him everyday but they couldn't entice him to leave. When he died he was allowed special permission by the council for him to be buried with his master. The equivalent of the RSPCA erected a head stone in his memory & its the most photographed tourist attraction in Edinburgh.
I miss my Zinny.
J K Rowlings just donated £10 million to the medical research Uni & Princess Anne, the patron gladly accepted it, thank you very much. I don't suppose she will even miss it. I would love to be able to do something like that. We saw the inspiration for hogwarts & the cafe she wrote the first book from. The beautiful 5 star Balmoral Hotel is not far from there & I'm wondering if it's the one she also wrote from. It's a huge building next to the city railway station. It has a clock on the top & is always set 3 mins fast so that train commuters won't miss their trains. They correct it at New Years Eve only. Makes sense to me.
Love this heritage listed city, wide streets, old but not damaged, all the beautiful headlight windows untouched & uncovered, no graffiti, no scatty people. No doubt they would have their less desirable sections but they are not in the city & the people are normal. The worlds first shyscrapers originated here in the city as it is so hilly it had to be built on a series of bridges to level it out a bit. We also went to the museum, too much to see though in a couple of hours. It had just been refurbished & it was amazing. And free!
I bought a Celtic ring for myself today on the Royal Mile. This is the street that runs from the Castle ( Holyrood House, home of Mary Queen of Scotts)
to Edinburgh Castle.
