Day 14 - Ooti in the emergency room
We asked Turkish hipster to book us on a tour to see turtles and swim in the mud. We were supposed to be going on the tour but when we woke up it was windy and horrible, Jayne's cold was worse and Ooti's back was spasming all over the place and she couldn't stand or sit or turn without saying "oohhwee" - which I assume meant it hurt. We thought we better get this sorted out straight away (as we have an action packed rest of the holiday) and got Turkish hipster to cancel the tour for us (with the excuse of Ooti's back) which meant Jayne then missed out in seeing her turtles. We took Ooti to the medical centre which was in Gocek and had an English speaking doctor. He examined Ooti, gave her an injection in her buttock and said we had to go to the hospital for an X-ray. We tried to say to him she hadn't done anything to break a bone or even pull a muscle - this mysterious back problem came out of nowhere. All we wanted was the pain killer medication he had given her in the shot in an oral form and then we could be on our way. Unfortunately he wouldn't administer any pain medication so we had to take our referral to the hospital. While we were off sorting that out Jayne went and laid by the pool and told hipster dude all about it saying not to worry and that she relaxed about the whole thing. Jayne was loving it, as hipster dude had his whole family over to the hotel for lunch while she was relaxing by the pool.
Back to our hospital visit - we had to go to the hospital in Fethiye which was about a half hour drive. The taxi man again was lovely - drove nice and slow and took us into emergency and asked who we should be talking to. We first started off with this horrible nurse who didn't care for us at all and kept saying we had to see the surgeon and multiple other doctors. I kept saying it wasn't necessary and we just needed the medication as I thought they were trying to scam us out of money (as we had to pay for every doctor we saw). The emergency was very quiet we were pretty much the only people there- the hospital was nice and clean and although the woman was unpleasant everyone seemed competent. She booked us in for an appointment with the surgeon who pretty much saw us straight away. We had no idea when we were being called so Ooti was sitting there with the receipt (we had to pay for the doctor before we saw him) plastered to her head and waving it around. A dude saw us and then told us he couldn't speak English but would get the translator for us. They had a translator on standby - she was very lovely but also a bit odd she walked around with basil in her hand and gave Ooti a piece to smell. Inside the room there was me, Ooti, the translator, an assistant doctor and the main doctor. The main doctor did a bunch of leg stretches with Ooti, determined it was muscular (not bone) and prescribed some oral medication which was all we wanted in the first place. As we were leaving the translator said to us that the assistant doctor loved us which we thought was hilarious. We waited outside for our taxi man to come back and the assistant doctor ran outside to see us. He was checking to make sure we had everything we needed and that we were happy. He then said that he and the doctor would come to Gocek to see us if needed and that he would give a medical massage. He then also gave us his personal mobile number. Looks like we found Ooti a husband after all! Our last day in Gocek was certainly very memorable!
