Day 13 - Bathed and Beautiful in Gocek
So two of the three of us (not me for once) have been battling with illness (Jayne a cold and Ooti a sore back) so we took it pretty easy. In the morning we went for a walk and I managed to pick up a little friend that wouldn't leave me alone. It was a dog that followed me everywhere - I think I must have smelt as I didn't have any clean clothes. It was really annoying (the dog - not my smell) as I would walk into a shop and it would wait for me until I came out and sat and waited with us while we had a drink. After we lost my friend we headed back to the pool at our hotel for some sun. Hipster Turkish dude booked us in for a Turkish Hamam at his cousin's day spa up the road for the afternoon. Jayne was totally excited to meet the hipster's cousin but unfortunately he wasn't a hipster so Jayne was disappointed. The Turkish Hamam experience was awesome. The place we went to was more conservative than other places, as I hear you usually have to strip off - but we were going ti wear our swimming costumes regardless. First up you have to sit in the steam room for 10 mins followed by the sauna for 10 mins and then you get about 30 mins of being exfoliated and bathed in warm bubbles on a beautifully warm marble bench. We met our Hamam therapists before we went in and I was in hysterics because the dude therapist who was going to bathe Ooti was standing in the reception in a towel with no shirt on. I thought maybe he was going to bathe her while he was in the nude. Ooti just thought he was another patron and had no idea that he was the therapist. Anyway it turns out that the therapists strip off to their swimmers and wear towels during the Hamam because they get saturated with water and it is also really hot in the room. My Hamam experience got a little weird - I had a lady therapist and she tried to undo the back of my swimming costume top - but the knot was too tight. I suggested it might be easier if I removed the top - she seemed weird about it so I said she would have to try and undo the knot. She then proceeded to undo the knot with her teeth - it was quite strange! Besides that however the Hamam was great and I highly recommend it! You feel so nice and clean and your skin glows after it. There is also a bit of a shock at the end but I won't ruin it for you. After the Hamam we also decided to get massages. That was a bit of a mistake the lady who massaged Jayne and I massaged us so hard we had bruises all over our legs. Ooti's dude didn't know how to massage and weird music that was not relaxing was playing in the background - a bird squawking then an airline safety announcement. Besides that fact that it is a random thing to play, anyone that knows Ooti will know that would make her highly anxious! Excited for our last day in Gocek
