Day 2 - We rule France
So I must have jet lag as I woke up at 630 in the morning! We had an exciting morning around the house with Jayne managing to lock herself in the bathroom, while Hana saved me from eating cream cheese for breakfast (I thought it was yoghurt in the super market), and Jayne spat out her tea - because apparently green tea in France has lemon in it (Jayne wants to let it be known she is outraged at this). We then went for a leisurely walk into the town. It was a little scary as there is no path so we had to walk on the road. The town itself is really pretty and we managed to get a few odd looks - we must have been up and about too early for France (10:30am) or they don't get many tourists. We heard there was a market in the town so we went to check it out - there were literally three stalls at the market - one that sold some bread, another sold fruit and the last sold lots of odd things like knives and screws. While it wasn't the best market the bread we bought was quite yummy. We checked out some of the restaurants to suss out what we were going to have for dinner (as you can tell we are very food focused) and then sat in the square for some drinks. We headed back to the house in the afternoon for a pre lunch meal (I.e a cheese platter as lunch), and sat in the lovely sun and read. In the afternoon we decided to check out the wineries that were close by. At the first winery we went to the lady didn't speak English but we understood exactly what she was saying so we felt like we were fluent in French. We tried some lovely white wine and rose and the reds were very light (but not as good as back home). We bought some wine and then headed to the next winery. We should have waited for the next winery the wine was even more delicious (with a hint of terra firma). The lady there spoke English and we bought some more wine. She was in the middle of harvest so she gave us a nice added bonus and let us try some of the grapes. We headed back to the house to get ready for dinner - we walked into the town again. I was concerned for our safety so I brought out the head lamps which I brought with me in case we went trekking. Jayne and Hana were very embarrassed but I take my safety inspector role very seriously and had the head lamp on for my walk into the town. We didn't get hit by a car - so the head lamp worked, although we didn't actually see any cars on the road anyway. We went to a lovely and quite expensive hotel for dinner and had the two course meal (entree and main. They knew we spoke English straight away and served us in English with English menus. Hana went to put her bag on the spare seat at our table and found that we had a guest on the chair. There was a cat sitting on the chair sound asleep in this very fancy restaurant which we were paying a lot of money to eat at. The cat was cute, but it was still weird. I had the snails for entree and a beef medallion for main. The food was delicious but very filling and rich. We had a fun walk home with our head lamps and again had an early night - stupid jet lag!
