Day 1 - The arrival
After 24+ hours of travel I finally made it to Nice. My travel was fairly uneventful -that is until I met Jayne at the Nice airport. Jayne arrived at Nice a couple of hours before me and went and picked up the car we hired and met me at my terminal. We then headed up to the parking lot where Jayne unsuccessfully tried to start the car and couldn't find the hand break. I had to go and get a car attendant and explain the car wouldn't start - he looked at me oddly and came over to see what was the issue. So there was no issue - Jayne had to put her foot on the break before turning the key and the hand break was there but was a tiny switch in the car centre console. The car attendant laughed at us and then waved us off telling us to drive safe. I don't think he had much confidence in us. We then tried to exit the car park with the parking sensors going crazy because we were too close to the walls so I was very scared. We put the ticket in the exit but of course it didn't work. After talking to one of the cars exiting he advised our ticket may have expired so I had to run up to hertz and get a new exit ticket. Our car attendant dude was expecting this and had a new ticket ready for me and was laughing his head off. I ran back down to our car and finally we were able to exit! Now for the scary part - Jayne driving on the other side of the road. We had a 40 min trip to the place we were staying in Seillans and I don't think either of us were able to breathe the whole trip let alone take it the lovely scenary. The highway driving was ok after a while but the really scary part was the driving into the little town - the roads were very narrow, there were side ditches and oncoming cars flying at us very fast. At one point I screamed which Jayne told me wasn't very helpful. On the way to our place we found a super market so we could stock up and everyone in the place was laughing at us - not really sure why. We were relieved when we made it to our place and Jayne did very well driving. The place itself is lovely - it has a nice outdoor terrace, fireplace, and a lovely view of the surrounding hills and town. Hana arrived a couple of hours later via an airport transfer and the dude could not find our place so Hana was getting increasingly frustrated. It was all good in the end and we had a lovely pre dinner meal cheese platter (which we had as dinner) and some wine and had a nice early night. Excited for the next week in the lovely French country side. Heading off to explore the town tomorrow.
Later
