After a briefing with your guide, you will leave Arusha by Land Rover/Land cruiser, crossing the Maasai Steppe on your way to Tarangire National Park, Tanzania's fourth largest and one of its most diverse. Stop at the picturesque park gate for the driver to fill up the parks registration book. Full day game drive in the park enjoying viewing animals in the park. Soon, the impressive Great Rift Valley Escarpment will come into view - a 2,000 foot high wall that rises up, improbably steep and incredibly tall, out of the flat plains. Zebra, wildebeest, bushbuck, dik-dik and guinea fowl regularly cross your path, unbothered by your benign presence and going about their daily routines. You'll meander along bush tracks and explore the Tarangire River's twists and turns, finding elephant drinking and playing in the refreshing waters.
Overnight at Butman Tarangire Tented Camp. * Use of radios/phones to increase your safety. Safari trip - http://www.serengeti.org/
Day 9: 9th October - The first glimpse of the Ngorongoro Crater is an unforgettable experience. Although commonly referred to as a crater, it is actually a caldera. At over 20 km's across and 600m deep the Ngorongoro Caldera is the largest unbroken, un-flooded caldera in the world and clear testimony to this regions volcanic history. The most renowned part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, this unique feature is legendary for the more than 25 000 wild animals that occupy the crater-floor. In addition to the large population of grazing animals, the small soda-lake (Lake Makat) is home to flamingos. Africa's Big-5 - Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino are all to be found here along with Hippo, Zebra, Warthog, Eland and many of Africa's other wild animals. Overnight at Twiga Lodge near Lake Manyara national park.
Day 10: 10th October - After breakfast, leave the lodge very early in the morning, Game viewing with your expert guide in Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara National Park is a national park two hours west of Arusha. The majority of the land area of the park is a narrow strip running between the Gregory Rift wall to the west and Lake Manyara, an alkaline or soda-lake, to the east. It is famous for its population of flamingoes. Manyara is used as an alternate or extension to Ngorongoro, located just outside the the conservation area gate. Guests can sightsee in two completely different temperate zones only 90 minutes apart. Park fees are less expensive than Ngorongoro. From soaring groundwater forests and a tranquil lake, to the mountain escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park boasts an incredible wealth of habitats and diverse African wildlife.
