Tentatively awaiting the snow report.
So forecast for north westerlies and this I'm beginning to understand, that this basically, instantly grinds the mountain to a halt. Not only that but it brings wet warm weather So its 50/50 if it snows or not Eurh. Fingers crossed but if we are open the day is going to be so busy, it's Aussie and nz holidays for the moment , so no doubt it will be full on with school group after school group. The good news is the walls don't feel as though they will fall down - good start right?
Also we have mountain earthquake training today ? What that entails- who knows ! Its such a bizzar consept. Much like that dam sieron, which for the record went of at 5am this morning hence my early blogging !
I mean who in their right mind sounds something which honest to goodness makes you think your about to be bombed and should be running forthe nearest underground bunker at 5am, more the point why don't they just use phones or pagers. Literally living I the stone ages and thats from a Scottish person.
Will update with days events as they commence ...
Mountain open! What a day, sunshine and beautiful hero snow! Perfect for instructing. Awesome day, awesome skiing ! Organised (ish) mess this morning when we got sorted out - still no idea what's going down, as learning line up times etc is a NIGHTMARE, rule of thumb tends to go when you see red jackets congrigate- follow.
Someone showed up with there boots on the wrong feet claiming they were able to ski parallel, when i proceeded to interigate this middleaged, clearly arrogent british women, she barked at me asif i was about to deport her to some third world country where she couldnt endulge on her tea and scones. I mean do I look like I was born on the moon ? Man was a good laugh. Love the life of a ski instructor .. Another good laugh this morning was this 'rather large kid' - to be politically correct - basically flattened his teacher sliding on the ice in ski boots, landed on his bottom on top of the unsuspectng teacher. .. I had to walk away otherwise i might have been in trouble for voicing my hummor.
Finally explored more of the mountain today , snows Pritty sweet - real darn cold but ... Sweet as. Awesome off peist ,went skiing with a guy from beaver creek demo team today whom I'm working with at team Hutt (race club). And he is a powder hound which was awesome for me ! Absolutely loving it ! Felt like I earned my stripes today by proving myself, since I was more keen than most the dudes (it was sunny okay!) and proceeded to go first etc..! Hitting the ground a fair few times, all in good fun right? It is incredibly male dominated however over here, i guess like most of the ski industry! I mean today there was three other female instructors on the hill! One of them boarded, was really nice and cool but on a different programme to me so that ment no free ski time with her and the second didn't fancy anything out with the marked routes, clearly was more focussed limiting helmet hair and keeping the sofa warm - lame!
We then had a staff clinic which despite being a little nerve racking to begin with as we were skiing with the boss and all it was real cool. Feeling a lot more relaxed about everything, like I do actually know what I'm talking about 90% of the tim ! Learnt a few new bits and bobs too, always helpful as a top up? He seems a pritty well skied guy (well obviously otherwise he wouldnt be the boss) but yea, no seems real knowlageable which is always awesome to have at hand.
Also now to my more exciting daily dilemas - There is this challenge in methven when you ski from the top to he bottom of the mountain ( the snow line) and then mountain bike out to base of the mountain and finally run to the last post (pub - that does two for ones) in methven. Sounds gruling but apparently it's more of a cruse and team event which involves crazy outfits ! I have this Horrid feeling I've been talked into it ... And i don't think my 'team' relies HOW much I hate mountain biking, the rest is fine, but biking... For anyone who knows me will understand that me and bikes - primarily mountain bikes are not a partnership which will last long - on the pluss, it is all down hill ?
Anyway, Bring on tomorrow! I have a 9am, 1pm and 3pm . All level 5 . SWEET ! If we dont have another Mt Shutt day.
