Hi again sorry its been a while,i've been nusy busy busy at work!
Yesterday I had a busy day at work, still on the labour ward, delivered a placenta, half delivered a baby, resusitated a baby and assisted in many births and weighing babies! Its certainly been an experience but probably not one I would repeat in such poor conditions where the staff have such limited skills and knowledge.I have seen the most terrible treatment of women and horrible ways of trying to help the babies, women here are not allowed to show emotion so if their babies die they see them for a few seconds and then it is taken away and they cant even cry and have no family with the for support. Yesterday I took a lady to theatre for a c section and as usual she had to wait in the hall with a sheet wrapped around her,she had had no pain relief and was meant to be an emergency (but had waited 3 hours) and she was leaning on my shoulder until the nasty nurses laughed at her and told her off!Eventually the baby was born but not breathing and very ill and I was able to resusitate it successfully.
After work we went to the international trails for Rhowda which was interesting...a man completely lying about not supplying guns!
Saturday we went to the Maassi village...was greeted with dancing and singing and spent the morning making beaded braclets with the mummas and children then went with the men to kill a goat and eat it!!first course was raw kidney, the liver which had kind of been smoked then the meat...all of which was horrible!
So at the end of my first 2 weeks I have experienced far more than I thought possible, have enjoyed it nut am glad to be moving on.A&E next week and then neonates and lastly a week in the village in zanzibar!
Til next week...kew heri
