Only one whole day on Railay, probably needed at least 1 or 2 more as there's lots to do here like rock climbing, diving, and visiting the islands and caves. We'd had enough of tours and treks and had heard about a lagoon you could climb to and rapel down into so we went off exploring with a hotel map. It was easy enough to find and on our side of Railay too. It was a very steep climb, 45 min scrambling up slippery clay and tree roots but there was a great viewpoint over Railay at the top. The other track led us down more clay and rock faces by use of knotted ropes someone had attached to bolts in the rock. I must admit some of the descents were a bit ropey and bearing in mind all we had on our feet were rubber sandals it was actually pretty dodgy!
Anyway we reached the lagoon and it was a cool respite to jump in after getting all hot and sweaty. I don't think many people make it down there as 3 girls ahead of us and we didn't see them anywhere, there were traces of broken flip flops too!
All of the leaf matter falling in to the lagoon had created lots of clay type mud and people had left clay models all around the cave walls, we left a K and a T J
Also on Railay we went to visit Phra Nang beach, absolutely gorgeous. We went for a dip and tried to snorkel but the water was too turbid, we also had a go at climbing the rocks but our hands were too slippery. There were loads of bolted climbs here and we watched some of the climbers including a thai rock climbing instructor who was insanely good, he made it look effortless as he hung almost upside down and pulled himself up by one finger!!
Walking along the beach we spotted a group of more dusky langurs and one had a baby clinging to her chest. There was also a whole group of crab-eating macaques, you could see why they were here as the beaches and mangroves were covered with white sand crabs and their little holes in the sand.
