Today we left Ko Phi Phi for Railay beach, close to Krabi, as recommended by a few friends. We managed to book a hotel before we left with a travel agent who was actually really helpful and booked us one night at Viewpoint resort for 600 baht. A tropical rainstorm later and we were on the boat. We arrived on the West side which has a beautiful beach and cool breeze but our hotel was a 5 min trot to the East side which is mangroves and mosquitos! Our ferry boat stopped just short of the beach and two long tail boats came and ferried us the rest of the way, exciting as we had to jump out into the sea and carry our bags to the beach. On our way to the resort we wandered through a forested area and right up in a tree was a dusky langur- no photos though L It was sitting chomping on leaves minding its own business- wonderful to see.
By the time we'd checked in, showered and realized we had no sheet to sleep under on the bed (upon asking for one they said they'd run out!) it was time to nip back to the West side to grab some grub and a beer.
Just outside our room was a small set of ponds filled with noisy chirruping frogs. We donned our cameras and I managed to snap a smallish green frog munching on a cockroach- good job, I hate cockroaches!
