Up really early to catch the minibus at 6.30am to Surat thani airport! Caught our flight to Bangkok and arrived midday. We checked into an 800 baht hotel near the international airport called Romance Mansion. A comedy hotel where no one spoke much English so us asking if anyone would be around at 4am the next morning for us to check out was lost in translation until a guy helped us out.
After cooling down we figured we'd go shopping and again more comedy trying to ask for a map and finding out how to get a taxi to a shopping place. Eventually got there and we got taxied to the biggest shopping mall I've ever seen! I bought some skirts and we both bought a bunch of DVDs.
We found a place for dinner, it was hard to choose there were so many to choose from, but I ordered something that had so much chilli in it was inedible but Tobes was really hungry and took pity on me and ate mine instead. Both a little disappointed about the food and Tobes uncomfortably hot, we grabbed some dimsum next and followed that with ice cream! We walked around the enormous tesco lotus out of curiousity and Tobes bought fresh sushi only 10baht for 2 pieces. They had tanks of fresh fish and prawns! However, drama struck when we got to the til and I realised I'd lost my purse. Realizing we had to get to the airport for 4.30am and that Tobes was flying home I felt utter panic especially as I'm normally so careful with my belongings. We headed back to the ice cream stand where I'd last used my purse, a kind old lady saw my tears and helped translate to ask the store guard. A store detective also came over to help, he told us stories about how his Kuwait friend had his wallet pick pocketed and he'd had over $1,000 in it! He was trying to be helpful but I hadn't even thought for a moment about pickpocketers. Still in floods of tears and wanting to just curl up on the floor they got me to fill out a lost and found form and then asked if I'd like to watch the cctv footage. I watched myself re-buy an ice-cream drop my purse but pick it up again, still no idea where it went. Just as I was giving up hope and worrying about cancelling my cards the guard's walkie-talkie crackled in Thai that someone had handed in my purse! I am so lucky, everything was still in it! Relieved but still shaken we thanked everyone for being so helpful and got back to the hotel- what an eventful day!
