We left Cuba and arrived the airport at Grand Cayman. Cayman Islands is a place where everything is expensive and hostels don`t even excist. The hotels were only 5-star hotels which was totally out of our budgets and we decided to do couchsurfing. This is something you do from a webpage where you have to make a profile and from there you can search for cities all over the world. Then you simply send requests to other profiles in these cities. We had sent a request like this to Jason Dong, and after chatting with him via mail, we decided to stay with him for a couple of days. He told us he could pick us up at the airport which was really nice! We had seen a picture of him on the couchsurfer webpage, and that was the only lead we had. Anyway when we got out of the airport, there he was waiting for us and after a short drive we arrived his appartment. It was a really nice place, just by the beach wich he shared with his mate, Matt. Jason was a guy who didn`t like awkward silences, and we didn`t have many of those. After a quick tour around the neighbourhood, we went out and he bought us dinner and when we got back we met Matt. He didn`t like awkward silences either.. They both turned out to be great guys and later on that evening we went out to a couple of clubs and had great fun! Jason also made the best drinks ever, mango daiquiries. When we got back to the appartment, we snuk out to the jacuzzi wich belonged to the hotel next door. The guards, on the other side, had a different plan and we had to go back. It didn`t take long before we all we`re asleep, in great madrasses in the Candian boys`s livingroom. The next day we slept for ages and Jason and Matt had gone to work. They came home for lunch, and Jason took us to a nice place where we had the best lunch we`ve had in several months. This time we decided we should pay for his lunch, and so we did. He went back to work, Linn and Kristin went to the beach, while Ingrid stayed in the appartment skyping home and tried to heal her sunburn. In the after noon we just relaxed, went to the beach for the sunset and in the evening the boys showed us their cooking skills. We had to help them and we made homemade pasta, made the dough, the sauce and the meatballs all from scratch. Jason was the pastamaster, and Matt the choppingmaster. It turned out to be a delicious meal, and after this we stayed up talking and just having a good time, until we had to go to bed since our flight left 7 in the morning. We even tried to change the flights to stay there longer, but unfortunately it didn`t work out because we had to talk with our adviser for the trip and there was easter holiday in Norway.. Jason drove us to the airport and after saying goodbye we were heading for Jamaica.
This flight landed in Kingston, but we were told to just stay at the plain while they refilled fuel and then we left for Montego Bay. There was some trouble in the immigration control, because we didn`t have the adress for the place we were staying. We went to different desks, and Kristin and Ingrid didn`t meet friendly faces. Kristin got the adress, and gave it to Ingrid as well, but the guy behind the desk Ingrid went to, made her go through a health control because we had been in Mexico. After the guy finally let Ingrid through the control, and Ingrid`s temper had cooled down, we met a taxidriver and we went to The Birds Nest, the hostel we were staying at for the next days. The hostel had a big garden with a pool and coconuts and a lot of other guests that smoked weed all the time. The last couple of days have been relaxing and good. After all we have been travelling all the time, not spending more than 2 nights in one place and it was really good to just chill out and do nothing for some days. Besides we got to know the dog Indie, Max the son of the owner who was about 9 years old, and Alex one of the staff. We also tried coconuts and coconutmilk, and sugarcanes. It has been a nice couple of days, but we decided we wanted to go to the sea and to Negril, wich is about 1,5 hour away from Montego Bay. The driver who drove us, asked us after a while if any of us had the driver licence, and since Linn has that, she got to drive for a while. We all survived her driving and now we`re at some cabins at the beach and we`re looking forward to have some sun tomorrow.
Ps! Thank you Jason and Matt for a great stay! We miss you guys.
Cheers,
Linn, Kristin and Ingrid
