So it has been a few weeks so I thought I would update anyone who is still reading this blog with my tales over the past few weeks which have including trips away, drunken shenanigans, working hard on several banana farms and cooking delightful feasts.
So where do I start? Lets start with work, over the past two to three weeks I have been doing 4 days a week at my regular farm doing a variety of work including my regular job hanging. I have got so good at this job now I do it on my own and it is normally a two man job. I have also kept myself busy deleafing and digging which are both terrible jobs on the farm. Deleafing is really boring and puts a massive strain on your neck and back and digging is some of the hardest work I have ever done, especially in the heat. I was even let lose on the tractor and quad bike at the farm.
Before I was getting 4 days a week at my farm I was doing other bits and pieces to get myself work. I did a few hours work in the bottleshop which earnt me $50 off my rent and also got me a free steak dinner. I did a days humping at another farm, which I am still awaiting payment for. And also the neighbour of our regular farm has had me doing the odd day a week there doing things like irrigation, clearing the shed, and he even got me and Ben to go in a creek and move a pump into deeper water. So I've pretty much done every job on the banana farm now.
The wildlife on the farms is still rife, although the snakes have dwindled I still see heaps of frogs, random birds, spiders (one little b****** even bit me) and now I am doing more work in the paddocks wild kangaroos. One was even guarding my knife when I went back to it. I went to find something to scare him off but the next thing I know he or she is hoping straight by me.
Although its not long until I get my secnd year visa signed off Ive decided I am going to stay here until the 22nd October, that way I will not miss the next full moon party at my next destination and I will be able to hopefully save more money for my travels down the east coast.
We have had several more people come and go. Japanese girl Miki left, also Greg from Chester left the hostel to go to Asia. But we have had more arrivals. A german guy called Chris moved into our room but only lasted two days before he moved on. But as he moved we got another 2 german guys move in, two lads called James and Tom from Mansfield have moved into the hostel too, taking the total of Notts people to 5, we will soon be taking over! Also a ginger guy called Simon and two of his Norther Irish friends Sarah and Suzanne moved in and they are a good laugh, as well as a Korean guy called Daniel who has been trying to teach me how to beat box, although I am failing dramtically.
There has been many good nights since the last blog, the first one was an event called Jam in the Jah where we went to a pub just out of town who had a few bands playing. The next weekend there were a few birthdays, so it was decided that there would be an ABC Party - which means you had to wear anything but clothes. People came up with some pretty creative ideas, some leaving less to the imagination than others, I wore a sleeping bag, my original idea was to buy twister and wrap myself up in the mat but it was too pricey just for a party where it would probably get ruined. Others wore rucksacks, tape, bin bags, banana bags, banana leaves, tissue, towels, empty boxes. It was a great night. The next weekend was the weekend of my birthday, I didn't really want to spend it in Innisfail, so me and four others Luca, Hannah, Lauren and Christy hired a car for the weekend and took a trip to mission beach where we had a right blast, playing drinking games such as the flip cup championship, 21, ring of fire, doing shots. The hostel was right across from the beach which was awesome and it was red hot, so we all got pretty sun burnt, especially Lauren. I got particularly drunk as it was my birthday, upset a few germans by being a tad loud, which also didnt impress the night manager. We ended up going to the beach and finish drinking both nights where we tried and unsuccesfully tried to start camp fires, i decided to skinny dip. Completing the first of many challenges people from back home gave me, and I have never seen a starry night like I did them two nights. It was simply breath taking. It was a great weekend. As we had a car it was brilliant as we could venture anywhere we wanted too, on the saturday we took a trip to the supermarket to get supplies for a bbq, where me and Luca cooked up some pretty amazing food, and we also stopped to see the state of the big bird. It has came to my attention that I like big random status so we visited Tully too to see the big statue of a boot, where we climbed to the top and did a shot. And our way home we deccided to stop off at several places to make the most of our car which we named consuallah. We sopped at Babinda Boulders, Bramstom beach, a gate which had kermit the frog on, a lama on the side of the rode, josephine falls and the golden hole (a creek near josephine falls) Josephine falls was particularly impressive and even had a rock you could slide down. Unfortunately for my me my balance wasn't the greatest on the slippy rocks and I kept falling over, my finest moment being at the top of the rock slide and falling backwards in the oposite direction giving everyone a good chuckle. I came out with only a bruised ego too. I had holiday blues almost immediately as we got back the hostel was so much better than ours even though all they had around the place was a woolworths and one bottleshop. But the hostel was so clean and tidy and had a brilliant swimming pool. Which included a log stretched over the width of the pool, where me and Luca had many duels, all of which I lost, mainly because he ran off when I was getting the upper hand instead of fighting like a man, and also trying to cross the log, I was trying to do this drunk on my last night, only to be stopped by the night manager. Looking back I should have done it anyway, even though I would have probably fell in in all my clothes. I didn't have the sturdiest of legs that night!
The next two weekends involved us (pretty much all the hostel) going camping, I loved this idea as it meant I didn't miss Leeds Festival quite as much and I could get into the spirit of things. The first weekend we went camping at Bramstom Beach. As usual we got drunk, a load of us ran into the sea, some naked, some not. I was naked. The next day after we woke up and brushed our teeth with jim beam and coke, rock and roll, we decided to take a walk to the far edge of the beach, we didn't realise how far it was and it took us 4 hours to walk there and back. In the blistering heat, Lauren got badly sunburnt again, but we saw a massive snail, a tree with loads of random flip flops and shoes on and when we got to the end there was a pretty impressive lagoon. It was a bit more subdued night as a few people went home, but me and a few others still got drunk and I continued to try and learn beat boxing with no success. I ate some dodgy chicken nuggets which did nothing for me the next day when I eventually found a toilet and apparently made a little boy run out nearly in tears because of the smell. A few of us got up early too to see the sunrise but this was spoilt by a massive cloud being in the way.
This weekends camping trip was a bit different as we camped slap bang in the middle of a rainforest on misty mountains. Yes sounds like the perfect setting for a horror movie. But it was ok and we had a quality time having a rave getting drunk under UV lights. I was drunk after I stepped off the bus I had managed to with the help of my friends on the bus drink half a crate of beers and a full bottle of Jim Beam. It was no surprise then that I passed out pretty early, but I did get woken back up and joined back in the fun later. Where there was lots of nakedness (not me), dancing and other drunken anticssuch as my hurting my finger lifting people upside down. We woke up early the next day and had a swim in the creek followed by an horeandous trek through the forest to a waterfall, a few of us didn't make it that far and decided to head back to camp to get food, relax and start drinking again. Like the last week, the saturday night was alot more subdued but we still had a good time dancing around, eating cheese slices and drinking beers. The one sad note of the weekend was that my flip flops both broke, the flip flops which had a bottle opener int the bottom which cost me forty english pounds, which I loved. I reluctantly brought some more flip flops today as there is no way the others can be fixed.
Just to let you know (especially my mum and dad) its not all been party, party, party, may I take you back to the first part of the blog where I described how hard I was working. Also me and Luca have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen making delights such as Kangaroo pasta, carbonara, chciken curry pumpkin, rice and sausage, strawberry cheesecake, bangers and mash and Mexican Burrito's. It appears I am far more domesticated than I first thought.
Also the local swimming pool has re-opened it is a nice big olympic size pool, so whenever we have spare time we go down there to top up the tan and play with the little bundy ball we got free from the bottle shop in the pool. We have a also started going to Soup Kitchen on a Monday night, which is put on by the church for homeless people but all the backpackers go for soup, sometimes a pie and random dessets which range from custard and apple pie to jelly and ice cream. We also get free bread and veggies there.
Not sure there is much else to say apart from I temproraily dyed my hair red which lastested about a week, it looked pretty good though so I think I am going to put a more longer lasting colour in it next time. And me and Luca have been regularly competiting with silly bets as to who buys the Tuesday night pizza. I am currently winning 2-1 beating him on at the first one to say no loses, and the first one to touch there face loses. And luca beating me on the first one to eat loses after we had demolished a 64 piece Chinese party set.
Anyway I thinks thats about it, I'll ty and update sooner next time so it is not an essay type blog like this one.
Hope everyone is well back home, I've been away now over six months. Crazy!
Stay safe
