Currently in Salvador where the temperature has been arount 30°c...however, right now, there´s a huge downpour.
Salvador is described as the "Afro-Brazilian soul" of the country, which i suppose we´ve seen a little of -much more than Rio, but I´d like to explore it more and find out! We went to an amazing dance and capoeira show the other night and around the colonial centre which is full of colourful buildings. It´s some type of festival here at the mo, so various parades and things are happening-lots of drumming, food stalls etc which make Pelourhino pretty cool. For the Brazil match we´re heading to the Barra lighthouse on the beach where a giant screens being put up! Thin k that´s going to be very busy-hope they win!
In Rio we did a Favella (slum) tour which was really interesting, it was one of the largest in Rio state-absolutely huge! But they want to protect Rio´s Tijuca Rainforest so they´ve stopped the favella building outwards into it; so now they build house upon house, stories high, then sell their roof space to the next favella family who wants a home. It was really good, learnt a lot! We also went to a favella party- this was incredible, 1000+ people. All the locals dance like mad. There was a tour that went for 60reals, but we caught 2 buses with some other people from the hostels and one on the way back, so the whole thing cost hardly anything! ....
