On Tuesday I began working at Oliver´s Travels, a local backpacking bar for all the travellers passing through La Paz. I started on a day shift and as it was so quiet in the morning I headed off around the hostels and travel agencies dropping off leaflets to advertise to anyone who may be interested. It was a pretty relaxing morning as the sun was out and it was a pretty quiet morning. I returned to the bar in the afternoon and again it was so quiet so i spent most the afternoon on playing music, drinking beer and talking to people on facebook, all in all a pretty easy first shift!
On Wednesday I had the day off and as I have already visited the majority of the major sites in La Paz I spent most the day sitting in the rooftop bar reading a book and watching the tennis on tv. The hostels are pretty quiet so can get boring at times, so I was pretty happy to find a message waiting on facebook from Amee and Gemma, two of the people I did the Tucan trip with saying they were arriving in La Paz on Thursday for two days!
On Thursday morning I got up and went to meet Amee and Gemma at the bus station, at 6am! 6am in La Paz is not pretty, its dark and absolutely freezing, and since their bus was delayed I had to wait in a freezing bus terminal for over an hour, but was good to see the girls again. We spent most of Thursday just chilling out and looking through the photos of the trip before I headed off to work for the evening. The evening began pretty quiet so once again I played DJ and sat on facebook, it slowly picked up and got busier with a couple of big groups later on so was good to keep busy. Amee and Gemma very kindly decided to pay me a visit and take photos of me in action at work, its pretty embarrassing getting your photo taken while your at work! After the bar cleared we spent the rest of the evening drinking shots and wierd cocktails that I have no idea what is in them, but the Bolivian barman thought it was hilarious not to tell me, meaning I got pretty drunk. After finishing up I finally got home around 3am.
Yesterday I woke up with a pretty bad head so again we just stayed in our hostel for the day napping and uploading photos. I had to work again last night and as it was the beginning of the Copa America the bar was packed meaning that the shift went really quickly, but I decided it wasnt the best idea to drink again and came home sober. Yesterday was possibly the coldest day of my trip and it rained all day, and when I was walking home from the bar around 1am it was snowing, which is something I definitely didnt expect. After a 2 hour nap I woke up again as the girls were heading to the airport to go to seattle. It was sad to say bye to them as it was good to have some company and are a good laugh but im sure will meet up again somewhere!
Today is my day off so I am going to do the same as I do most days, sit in the rooftop bar reading a book and just chilling out. There is still quite a lot to see and do in La Paz but after working last night I just cant be bothered to walk around as walking around at this altitude is pretty exhausting. Maybe when I have a couple days off in a row I will actually do some touristy stuff and see more of the city but for now, its time to be lazy!!!
