Adam and Charlotte's Great Escape.
FANTASTIC!! We survived white water rafting down the Shotover river where the rapids reach a grade 4. This mini aventure started with us kitting ourselves out with life jackets and helmets ect and sitting on a bus for 45mins going down the most dangerous road in Queenstown. Once on the water we paddled along for about an hours going down easy rapids, but on one them the boat nearly tipped over because we were stuck on a rock; we all had to jump to one side to recover it. Having survived nearly get dipped in 4 degree water we didn't full out once in the entire rafting trip. We would definately do water rafting again I (CP) might not be saying this if I nearly drowned. The other cool thing was we had a Peter Kay lookalike on our raft which made it all the more comical.
From Queenstown we travelled to Te Anau where we stayed for 2 nights so that we could explore Fiordland national park. Yesterday (Tuesday) we drove up the scenic root to Milford Sound and on the way backdown we stopped off at several short walks. The Chasm was by far the most impressive it was a rock and water formation. In the evening we did a trip to the Te Anau gloworm caves where we walked through the limestone caves which have been carved out by the water for thousands of years. The highlight though was getting on the little boat in complete silence and darkness into the gloworm grotto.
Now we are at Invercargill the furthest city south, we are trying to decide whether to go to Stuart Island tomorrow or not it depends on the weather.
Good morning to you all but it is nearly bed time for us.
Ad and Charl xx
