Finally made it to Wellington on a sunny day! Got the train here from param which took an hour-but the views were stunning, a shame I had to the share my carraige with a thousand screaming kids-roll on school I say!
I quickly walked up to the Beehive (built in teh 1970;s)to do my tour of parliment. It was much more strict than Canberra-where we had to leave all our belongings in the foyer before the tour...anyway it was worth it. Shown around teh Beehive; the actualy government building, where the day to day running of NZ happens-and where the PM Helen Clarke and all her associates work. We then went onto the Select Comitees rooms (the Maori one in particular was very pretty) which is where bills get debated with ministers, officials and member of the public. We then got shown the House of Representatives; which is where the parliment sit to pass bills-NZ only have one chamber as opposed to Oz (Senate and Representatives) and us (Lords and Commons). It was an intersting tour of a pretty interesting building!
After this I had a walk around Lampton Quay (shops and nice places to sit and have lunch) and then to Civic Square (galleries and library) which joins onto the water front.
