Around the World
From Murchison we drove on to Farewell spit, through Moteuka, Takaka and Collingwood. The spit is a wild bird reserve, which for us meant an expensive tour if we wanted to go along it. We chose to have a walk around the area instead, walking up to Fossil Point; which gave us a good view of the spit anyway. I can't say it was as spectacular as what I hoped it would be, but at least it was another thing to cross off the list. After messing about on the beach we drove back to Takaka for the night.

Paul Harvey Useful to know that the spit was not really worth the tour - we are currently planning a trip out there and were a little surprised at the cost of the tour along the spit ($120 NZ each)
