Another thundery night sleeping in the yurt at the Oasis cafe, Ulaatabaar.
We all take a taxi down to the bike shippers and get all the paperwork in place for getting our bikes back to the UK. This includes getting our identities verified through a legal Notary. We get back to the Oasis cafe hoping guys from the bike freighters have started building boxes for our bikes, but there is confusion and delay and don't have any straps to tie bikes down properly. Will be done tomorrow now apparently!
Steve, Gary, John and I get taxi into the centre of Ulaatabaar as planned, to move to our city centre hotel "Nine". It's going to be relative luxury for our last two nights in Mongolia. Nick decides to stay in the yurt at the Oasis - he is flying back home tomorrow.
The centre of Ulaatabaar is modern and bustling and a far cry from the rural Mongolia we have travelling through for the last week. About half the population of Mongolia (about 3-4 milion) live in the city. There are many tower blocks sprawling over a large area.
A shower and shave brings me back to life and Steve and I walk into the city, change some more money and stroll gently across the main Sukhbaatar Square, a lovely open space surrounded by colourful buildings. The Blue Sky Hotel and restaurant is nearby and tends to be what keeps catching our eye with its 24 floor arc shaped glass building. Our meanderings bring us to the Great Khan Irish pub again (last night we were watching the World Cup final here). A nice relaxing couple of drinks watching the world go by in the glorious sunshine before meeting John and Garry at the the Blue Sky restaurant. My stomach seems to have finally settled down so back to normal eating again. We finish off the evening for a final drink in the Irish pub - a bit dead tonight compared with th World cup night yesterday.
A fairly early night as we are all shattered but lovely to sink into a white crispy sheeted bed.
