SYDNEY - NEWTOWN 17.01.01
Today was spent gutting the flat and giving it a clean top to bottom (hayley...you would have been proud!!) Found out that Brie and Fabio were moving out Friday leaving the spare room empty....for someonw we know to move in?!!? I was looking forward to a days work on Thursday at a company called Feenix, and to Nicola and Mark coming over from NZ Friday. Work went really well and was so close i started at 8am and left the flat at 7.55...it would have been amazing if they wanted someone on a more permanent basis but unfortunately they were only looking for someone for 1 day a week and if i was to carry on my travels i needed more than 1 day a week!!! Friday came round really quickly and nick and mark managed to find their way to the flat and surprise me. The day was mainly spent catching up over a beer in the Botanical Gardens by the Habour Bridge and the Opera House and then dinner in Newtown in the evening. Saturday the weather was a right scorcher!! We decided it was way too hot to sit on the beach and so headed for the local outdoor swimming pool about 10 minutes away. That night we hit the town and showed nick and mark the delights of the Three Wise Monkeys!!! Some serious drinking games were played that we had picked up from other travellers (anyone brave enough to want to play email me and i'll tell you the rules!!!) Sunday we hit the beach at Coogee, alot smaller than Bondi beach but much much nicer. Here we had lunch and basically recovered from the night before. Monday was leaving day and as i had a weeks work lined up i said my goodbyes and went off to work :(
I had a weeks work in the city on reception so basically answering the phones..it was a fairly quite reception so nothing too stressful. Working that week felt alot like home and went really fast. I made sandwiches for lunch everyday, had a cup of tea when i got in and was always in bed by 10.30 (those of you who know me really well are probably laughing your head off now!!). It was a short week at work anyway as the Friday was Australia Day and that meant a bank holiday (which to you and me is a day off work!!). Australia day was spent drinking beers in Hyde Park and watching the Live bands performing. In the evening we walked over to Darling Habour and stood on the bridge watching the fire works which were totally amaziing and we finished the night with some drinks in Cargo Bar....however, all did not run as smoothly as it sounds!!!! After the fire works had finished there were literally 1000's of people trying to get off the bridge, it was carnage, however everyone was going the same way so it was just a case of being patient...which of course us English are......but there were some complete mongs who were trying to go the opposite way to the other 9998 people...and also thought that they were more important than everyone else.....got right on my nerves.....but i wasnt going to let it ruin what had been a really good day. So we headed for Cargo bar...trotting along (quite happy) and some woman steps on the back of my sandle, snaps the leather strap and walks off without even apologising.....i think i actually saw red!!!! To add serious insult to injury i got into Cargo bar, sat down with a drink and realised i'd sat in chewing gum!!!!!....That was my lot, the icing on the cake....it was most definately home time!!!!
01.02.07 I finally started a job that would see me through until i left Sydney in April, carrying on with my travels up the East Coast. It was reception work again for a company based in Alexandria (about 20 mins door to door from the flat) and was to turn out to be a pretty cushty job.
03.02.07 i had another visitor from home, Will and Farmer came to Sydney first before going to Sufers Paradise and then onto New Zealand. They were only here for 3 days so there was no time to waste. After a 24 hr flight i turned up at their hotel ready for a few drinks in the local bars.......thinking they might want to pass.....oh no, they were just as ready for a drink as the next person. We went to Cheers bar in the city and of course the Three Wise Monkeys. Me and Will left Farmer with the two girls (alicia and lindsey)...and went to get some food, with Hungry Jacks (Burger King) and Maccy D's across the road it was all too tempting, as we were about to walk in we saw loads of police cars pull up, stop this car and made the people inside get out. Once they had gotten out of the car the police pointed their guns at the suspects heads and told them to get down on the floor...mine and Wills jaw was on the floor!!! We continued to watch until the commotion dies down and then got involved in a burger!!!...felt like i'd just watched something out of those american cop programmes!!!!!! Having satisfied our hunger we went back to find the others and all a little worse for wear we walked back to their hotel, too tired (not to mention drunk) we all crashed in their hotel room and didnt move until the next day!!!)
We sneaked out of Will and Farmers hotel room in the morning (im sure if they caught us they would have made us pay for a nights stay!!), left them to have a shower while we went for breakfast (still in last nights clothes) and back to the flat for a quick shower before heading out. We had a really cool day planned (even though we all felt a little delicate!!) Alicia (now working for British Balls..a backpackers magazine) had managed to score some tickets for the A1 racing, like F1 but better!!!We caught the train out to Eastern Creek and the Australian racing capital. The racing was really cool and we had paddock passes so could get right up close to the cars. Of course we didnt win but we were there cheering our hearts out for England (we'd been given Aussie flags when we walked in...we ripped the stars off and had instant union jacks!!!) Anyway after the racing we had a walk down to the pitts to see what was going on. We hung around for a bit and an English woman said to someone "will he sign this for me"....us girls all looked at each other and thought "in for a penny, in for a pound" and followed this woman through into the pitts. We managed to get a picture with the Great Britain A1 driver Robbie Kerr and got him to sign the back of our tickets....the boys meanwhile were so uninterested, us girls were star struck, even though we secretly had no idea what his name was until we looked it up on the internet afterwards After a long and very hot day we headed back to the flat in Newtown and grabbed a takeaway curry on the way. All full up and absolutely wacked, Will and Farms got a taxi back to the hotel and us girls fell into bed not looking forward to work the next day!!!
Monday (05.01.07) and moving on day for Will and Farms, unfortunately i had to work all day but they busied themselves at Circular Quay and Darling Habour apparently "eyeing up the sights"....That night we all went for dinner and and said our goodbyes, it was a shame they couldnt stay longer but it was wicked fun while they were here!!!................
