Hey guys,
Arrived in Shanghai on Sunday after 20 hours on a sleeper train (this time with no ladders on the bunks, just little bits sticking out the wall so that you had to clamber on other people's beds to get up!). We had a bit of a nightmare getting to the hostel from the train station. Got the metro to the stop we'd been advised and then attempted to walk fom there (meant to just be a 10 minute walk!) However, after walking for 45 minutes to no avail we attempted to jump in a taxi....the driver had no idea where we were going and after paying to much money we jumped out somewhere completely wrong! We eventually found a posh looking hotel and went in to ask for help. Ended up being ripped off to use their internet to attempt to get the hostels address in Chinese. Eventually we jumped into a cab again and got to the hostel, nearly 3 hours since laving the train!
Our first day here we just wondered along the Bund (waterfrount) and saw the amazing night time skyline of Shanghai. the next day we took a wonder to old town Shanghai which is a complete contrast to the new Pudong area but very beautiful with bustling streets and amazing bulidings! Later in the evening we headed to the other side of the Bund to go to the fourth highest building outside of America %uFF08we think%uFF09%u3002Took us 3 lifts to get up there%uFF0C but they were charging a lot to go in the bar plus 15% service charge%uFF0C and the observation tower was shut. So we just looked out the window anyway, and the views were pretty impressive!
We've noticed everywhere here %uFF08China in general%uFF09they sell whitening creams! So while we're all splashing the fake tan on, ppl here are trying to do the opposite! Rach is missing her fake tan!
We've met loadsa ppl in this hostel, and on the Tuesday night we all went out to a club for the night! We played the dice game that everyone here plays%uFF01Was a good night%uFF0C but didn't really do anything the next day%u3002 Just sat around chatting to people in the hostel%u3002
On our last day in Shanghai we went to the Science museum, which was fun! We got to ride a bike on a high wire, play virtual volley ball/football, take penaltys, play table tennis and last but not least go on a ride through the digestive system wearing 3d glasses! Ha the end of the ride gave us a bit of a shock as an image of a 3d bum blasted poo particles toward us!haha
Saying our good byes to every1 we met here n off to Suzhou for 2 nights!
Love to everyone xxx
